That isn't far off from the Bolt in price.

Yes, but it's much bigger. The Dolphin (or EA1 in some markets), which is the next car BYD's releasing globally, would be closer in size to the Bolt. That looks like it'll be in the mid A$30,000s, possibly lower.

It's smaller - around the size and shape of a Honda Jazz/Fit, but with the extra interior space that comes with being a purpose-built EV - it's a little bit shorter than a Bolt. The Atto 3 sits somewhere between a Honda HRV and CRV in size.

I parked next to a white ElectraMeccannica Solo EV at the CVS in Bullhead City AZ last week. It's the first one I've seen in person. It was clearly marked "Experimental" on both sides. The company plans to manufacture them in Arizona. I think the idea is for people to use it for going back and forth to work but to have a bigger car for carrying golf clubs, grocery shopping, carrying passengers, etc. I don't see owning something like that as very practical now that I've seen one in person.

I like the idea. A little bit bigger than a motorcycle is really all what most people need for commuting when over cars are available to a household. Comes down to the price on whether it will be successful.

I've seen a lot of electric microcars in China and Italy. In Italy they are classed as quadricycles (as are their ICE equivalents), and you can drive them from 14, without a licence. In France, the ICE ones, because they don't require a licence, have always been popular with people who've been banned from driving normal cars. But they don't have the range or performance of this ElectraMeccanica. They're usually limited to around 30mph.

Here's one of the popular Italian companies, but there are lots of different ones.

And here's one of the coolest ones, in my opinion...

The most mainstream EV microcar in Europe is the Citroen Ami.

Price IS the key. At $18-20k purchase + registration + insurance + electricity it will be very much like even the hybrids used to be. It will take a lot of time for it to make up that amount of money over purchasing a very efficient hybrid or larger electric car that carries more. It has to be economically worthwhile.

Environmentally it does make a lot of sense but in most of the United States the average citizen isn't in a position to buy it for altruistic reasons.

In terms of price and capabilities, it is the FUV with doors.
The Fun Utility Vehicle - Ultra Efficient Electric Vehicles

The Aptera is hoping on a starting price of $26k with longer range, but the Solo has been built and sold in limited quantities in Canada. Pricing for these vehicles is hindered by the low production levels.

There was a federal credit for EV motorcycles, but that expired or was canceled by the new law for car EVs.

I see a few Bolts, Polestars, Mach-Es, Rivians. Occasional ID.4, but they're harder for me to spot. More Leafs. And I think there are more Teslas all models combined) here than any other single automobile model. Even more than Camry!

Example, My wife had an endoscopy today and while I waited, I walked around the smallish parking lot a bunch of times. Besides our Bolt, I saw two Model Ss, three Model 3s, one Model Y, a Polestar 2, and even a Prius Prime.

Several times, I've counted as many as six Teslas while waiting at a traffic light.

I've often noted that one of the most accurate indicators that we're steering towards a dystopian future with cars is whether or not they retain a functional steering wheel.

......I might have been overly optimistic about this......

I forgot to mention that I see them here now and then, too. I came very close to buying one last January. Then they told me about the $3k bribe I would have had to pay for the honor of owning one. I just saw a YouTube video that was announcing prices on the Ioniq 6 which mentioned that Ioniq 5 inventory is starting to grow now and we may start seeing actual discounts on them.

Sort of backwards.... I saw one of the approximately 2450 Tesla Roadsters from the first production run back around 2010.

It was a neat looking sports car parked next to the grocery store. The gentleman was happy to talk about it. He said it was one of approximately 1400 cars left from the first run. He was proud that the car had 120K miles on it. Then he went on to say that it was not his car; it was in for repair.. He fixes Tesla Roadsters for a living. He claimed that It's quite profitable because there is no competition for repairing that model. According to him, even Tesla "won't touch one" when it breaks down.

EQB, Hummer EV, e-Transit and BYD coach/bus. Not to mention I've average one R1T a day.
