So, I'm driving along last night and I press on the accelerator and the vehicle goes forward until ICE kicks in and then a horrible sound is present while running and vibration coming through the floor. I pull over to a side road. Shut it down. It will still turn over the engine, hence how I was able to make the video. It will move forward on electric power but not ICE. Engine is smooth while running.

Check engine light. But my scanner with torque app didn't pick anything up. The transmission has unknown miles as it was recently (dec) replaced with a JDM 55k mile engine. I had got one last April with 135 but that one was allegedly bad and it was a whole thing trying to make sure that it was bad, but when replaced the car ran and drove perfectly until now.

Spring for a dealership diagnostic; confirm up-front they’ll print out the codes?

Update: Went to the mechanics to look at it and when it first turned on engine running it didn't make any extra noise. About 30 secs in it started making the noise. I was able to drive it under gas power and the noise was slightly intermittent. I didn't go over 22 mph tops.

Edit: No codes relevant to engine or transmission on a much better scanner.

yeah, no. most mechs scanners won't work on a prius unfortunately. i guarantee you, if there's a light, there's a code.
without them, we're shooting in the dark

I know right. It's one of the higher level Autel scanner. And it picked up and read all the codes. But it def doesn't help with hybrid system codes. My bluetooth scanner was the one who couldn't pick up all the codes.

Update: a motor mount or transmission either broke or came loose. Was replaced and fixed the issue.

The engine would always start, as shown in the video. However, it would not move when the ICE would turn on. It would vibrate heavily and behave sluggishly.
