First of all, I want to thank Beach Auto Sound in Huntington Beach, CA for their AMAZING work. I was a bit worried taking my baby somewhere and having them rip apart the whole car to replace the sound system but they quickly put me at ease. Tom spent an hour going over options and demoing music and speakers with me, explaining everything in great detail. It was great. Now let me get to the details:

Alpine IVAD100 DVD w/ Flip Out Screen
Alpine 701 Digital Processor (Time-based correction and tons of EQ options!)
    Dynaudio 342 3-way System - Front
    Focal 165CV1 2-way - Back
Butler Tube Driver Blue 2150 150x2 (Tube amps!)
Butler Tube Driver Blue 275 75x2
MTX 4002 (Mine own amp for subwoofer)
Alpine SWR1022D 10" Subwofer in Custom Box

I think that's everything. They did some great custom door mods to get these Dynaudio speakers in. They custom mounted the midrange by the door handles, the tweeter went in the exisitng tweeter position, and they woofer was placed at the bottom of the door. For the woofer they removed the plastic speaker cover in the door and replaced it with a cover that will allow for more sound to come out. The 3 amps and the processor all fit in the compartment above the spare tire (which is still there and accessable). It took them about 2.5 days to do all the work. Tom then sat in the car with me and we custom tuned the car to my taste. All I can say is WOW. What an amazing sounding system! The bass hits so hard that my backseat passangers get free massages! I find myself taking the long way home and to work ust so I can spend more time in my car listening to this system. Thanks again Tom and everyone at Beach Auto! No this isn't a paid endorsement! :p

More screens the better! Who needs to watch the "road?"

It's only (1) 10" but it'll pound your fillings loose!

    THANKS for looking!!! :D

LOL - Yeah, when it was all done and paid for I was a little freaked out... As long as I'm in the car and listening, it doesn't bother me. :D

I'm going to guess you couldn't do something like that for less than $6000, and something like $7500 for everything, including tax and installation is probably more like it. But that install is so far beyond what I would consider for my own car that I really don't know how much something like that would run.

Very nice! I'd guess more like $10k+ for that system.

I must admit 2.5 days seems rather quick for getting all that together.

Any heat problems with the tubes in the compartment under the the cargo area? Did you add a fan or ventilation?

    First, beautiful system.

I just hope that car is not going to be one of those which pulls up next to, behind, in front of others at traffic lights and vibrates their windows and fillings and forces everyone to listen to their rap, or any other music for that matter, and makes people nuts. I have no problem with someone rocking out in their car on the freeway or whatever, but when they drive through the neighborhoods and wake everyone at 2:00AM and get all the dogs barking, etc., I get kind of angry. Not that Erick would ever do that.

In a former career, in an area where it seemed1/3 of the cars on the street had "stupid loud" stereos playing offensive rap lyrics, (calling women bit**es, using the "N" word as every other word in their "song" and encouraging people to act violently) I and my co-workers used to write a ton of tickets for that violation and when they would not pay their tickets, ultimately take them and their car to jail. Of course they would just pay their $ and get out and bail their car out of car jail, but that is what makes the world go around. I guess it was like forcing them to contribute financially to their own community.....

Seriously, no offense intended; just be considerate of others on the road when you have a killer sound system capable of making announcements at the Super Bowl. Also, remember, once you damage your hearing, it is damaged for life. If you know anyone who has gone deaf, it is no picnic for them.

Again, nice system and I am sure it sounds great.

The Prius keeps the sound in pretty nicely, unlike the booming systems in econo boxes. A 10" Type-R won't be world destroying bass, but people will still hear it, and not be rattled by it.

My guess is about $3000-$4000 installed for Erick's system. :). The labour would've been a good chunk. All that equipment is a helluva lot of wiring! Any sound dampening?

I agree 100%. I HATE people who "share" their music with everyone around them. I usually keep it pretty low on surface streets and always keep the windows shut. My job requires sensitive hearing so I don't blast it very often to preserve them. I actually turn the stereo very low or off when I get into my neighborhood. I just can't wait for the day that some joker pulls up to me with their music thumping so I can let him have it with my system. LOL.

Oh, they dynamatted the doors, hatch, and rear. It does get pretty hot back there, tho. The carpet above the amps gets a bit warm. I may try and wedge it open so they will get some circulating air.

Anyway to wire a computer fan in there to circulate?

I would recommend installing a fan or 2 to circulate the air in the bin. Your amps will overheat if you listen to them for a long time at high volume. Tube amps must generate crazy amounts of heat. My initial setup with 2 amps had overheating issues even with the cover off. I have 1 fan that sucks out the air, and I have had no overheat issues, even driving all day in the hot summer with the music cranked.

This guess is probably offensively low. this is a medium-power TUBE system. My guess is $9000 even for the equipment, parts, and labor.

And here's the great thing about tube rectifier / amplifier systems: though you wind up with the sort of power rating that's ready to "make announcements at the super bowl," almost all that power goes to CLARIFYING the sound, rather than INCREASING THE PRESSURE of the sound. So you get a perfectly refined sound stage that makes me -oh- so jealous.

I bet it sounds absolutely incredible. The only upgrade left would be a nanotube record player (which is infinitely more high-resolution than an LP but boasts all the strengths of analog recordings over digital; and it is still deep in development for people wishing to have PERFECT sound reproduction).

so i'm supposed to teach all day today while green? Bah!

    congrats!

Very nice set-up! The only this that dosnt look good is the speakers on the front doors. The rest is awsome!!

I like a clean stock look, it also keeps the bad guys from knowing what I have..;)

Agreed wholeheartedly about the stock look. I'll forego an accessory if it has to show too much.
