    Don't wonder... ask!

Consumers aren't passive observers in the marketplace – we're literally in the driver's seat.

That’s a good catch. I will be sure to ask my dealer about this as well. That is likely a negotiable fee if you have a relationship with the dealer (ie purchased a vehicle before).

I also noticed that Toyota.ca doesn’t have the $5k federal rebate in the calculator (yet), so that should also be accounted for if crunching numbers. Really wish financing was better than ~7%, but that is the world we live in these days… take the shortest term you can afford if you have to finance all or part of it. o_O

Not when the item you're after is in high demand. If this is anything like the Rav4 prime, you grab it while you can.

But I agree- I will ask for a proper bill of sale, now that we have the MSRP.

Yes, car supply is highly constrained. I don't think there will be any off-the-lot new Prime purchases this year, certainly not in Ontario. Dealers compete amongst themselves for orders and customer loyalty.

Just noticed another bit of fine print on the build price system. I don't know if it's new. "Vehicle Price" fine print says at the bottom:

Dealer may sell for less. A Toyota Dealership is free to set its own selling price for Toyota products and services.

I had always thought Toyota Canada made dealers stick to no more than MSRP. Then we got the "dealer fee", and now this, which suggests dealers can sell for over. Be careful out there.

When they push that sales agreement across the table for you to sign, look it over carefully, and bear in mind: it is literally a proposal. Virtually everything there is negotiable. There's precious little in it that has to be. If any of the "standard" fees seem preposterous, you can ink them out, revise to zero, or a lower number, have them intialize the revision. Or try to...

BC dealerships (and it's likely country wide) typically have a clause that says in effect "this vehicle can have had damage repaired equivalent to 20% of it's value, and we don't have to disclose it". You could cross out "20%", amend it to "$500".

All of this hinges though, on there not being an impatient line up of buyers behind you. Solidarity, lol.

I believe there’s also a finance fee. You’re charging me to set up financing that you’re offering?? Wth? Who’s fault was it to offer 0% financing for so long that now you need a finance fee to cover it.

I recall when we concluded our mortgage; after the last instalment there was some sorta “closing” charge, $200~300. Paid it, but seemed preposterous. Not sure if all the banks do that.

Probably the same fee when you close an account at a bank. A mortgage is considered an account I guess?

Title change. Bank's lawyers have to change the title from their name to yours and file it with the proper government (mostly local) agencies.

Quick update for my fellow Canadians. I spoke with my dealer today (Kitchener area) and the delivery estimate is 2 years from the order date. I ordered in November so it could be 2024 before I see my Prime.

Curious what everyone else has heard from their dealers. Sounds like Canadian allocations will be pretty minimal based on this estimate.

Yikes, but not entirely surprised. Also, it seems these are mostly guesses, so it could also be a lot sooner. Just luck of the draw, really.

I put a deposit in May 2022, and I believe I am near the top of the list for my dealership, but have never been able to get a straight answer from the dealer on ‘position’ on the list… I actually messaged my sales guy today and he doesn’t have any info yet on when he will have any Primes.

    The wait continues…

And yet Stephen Beatty said they’ll ramp up production in 2024. (And aim to fill the back order by the end of 2023 or early 2024 at the latest).

It’s curious… I keep thinking that the Prime will be far more popular in Canada because of our tax breaks… and then i have to remind myself that our market is 1/10 that of the US….So yeah, maybe we’re small potatoes. But I really did want to believe we’d see cars starting in May. ☹️

I figure Canada will probably sell similar or larger number of Primes due to the incentive difference and market sizes... I assume the bulk of the initial shipments will go to Quebec and BC since they have the biggest incentives, as usual. o_O

Both Prime models (Prius and Rav4) are basically licenses to print money for Toyota - they will sell as many as they can make. Hope they can prioritize production accordingly over other models to ramp up as quickly as possible.

toyota has to sell plug ins in the us to get carb credits in california to offset all the land yachts they sell there.
i doubt they make much if anything on primes

It will be. And it has been. Ever since the federal EV incentive came into effect in May 2019, there’s been way more Primes in my area than Gen 4.5s. Heck, there are even Prime taxis.
