    "On suitable freeway sections and where there is high traffic density, DRIVE PILOT can offer to take over the dynamic driving task, up to the speed of 40 mph. The control buttons needed for this are located in the steering wheel rim, on the left and right above the thumb recesses. Once conditions are suitable, the system indicates availability on the control buttons. When the driver activates DRIVE PILOT, the system controls the speed and distance, and effortlessly guides the vehicle within its lane. The route profile, events occurring on the route and traffic signs are correspondingly taken into consideration. The system also reacts to unexpected traffic situations and handles them independently, e.g. by evasive maneuvers within the lane or by braking maneuvers."

    The certification is just for Nevada at the moment, but the paperwork is filed in California. It will be available in the 2024MY S-Class and EQS.

    We just took our 22 Escape PHEV with Ford Co-Pilot 360 (SAE Level 2) on a longish trip. It was my second time using the system since we got the car 4 mo ago. Its dynamic range cruise and lane-keeping system works very well on the well-marked interstate highway, better than TSS2.0 on my previous 21 PP. It was a big help for me on our way back since we could not finish the ~300 miles return trip before sunset. I try to avoid nighttime driving due to my aging vision, but the Co-pilot system made the night driving stress to a minimum.

    The biggest problem was that the system relies on well-marked lines on both sides of the lane. It became totally useless as soon as we got off the major highway. I had to disengage the system for the last ~50 miles or so on the unmarked, narrow, winding, and dark unlit rural roads with very few lines on the road. Even if there were lines, this time of year after winter months, the painted lines were mostly gone on many parts of the roads. I have a feeling new upcoming SAE 3.0 systems are not going to help most of our driving conditions, I'm afraid.

    Besides not being very useful for most of our daily driving conditions, after using the Co-pilot 360 system on the highway, I think if I start to heavily rely on this system for driving assistance, I may not be able to drive cars without the system for much longer. Once people becomes dependent on a new technology, it becomes a necessity. I see that to be a pitfall of advanced technologies.

    It may be of use in heavy traffic conditions; but I tend to not rely on technology and turn most of it OFF. I don't/can't even memorize phone numbers anymore; not sure if it's my age or my mind just getting lazy. I've noticed that about our new hires; they google everything and don't seem to have the basic knowledge required for their job.

    Sorry for the whining....
