My 2005 prius is making buzzing noise every 10 -15 seconds frequency for about 10 second. This noise was common when you initially open door and before start ignition. Also after ignition shut off this noise comes for few seconds. now it is coming throughout during driving and has gotten little louder. Based on my research and autoshop evaluation it is the ABS hydraulic pump assembly that is not able to hold pressure and pump has keep pumping frequently. Please comment. Also genuine Toyota part is very expensive ($1500+). Please recommend any source for remanufacred or alternate brand part.
Yeah, not ABS specifically but it is the brake pump and as they leak they make that noise and once it happens often enough you get warning lights and eventually vehicle won't let you drive it. For a Prius getting close to 20 years old new parts aren't worth it and there's a small amount of risk buying a used part on the cheap, but most sellers will give you a warranty. In some cases some parts fail at a certain age no matter what, but this is not one them. Do you or a friend or family member plan to do the work? If so we can walk you through the repair. If not the charge from a legit shop is gonna be close to or over $1K, which might be worth it if they have a good warranty reputation...
