Sad day, I got rear ended by a Jeep in my 2010 Two, he said he couldn't see me as he was looking left to turn right. The trunk no longer closes, the floor in the trunk doesn't close either.

I was hopeful to give this to my nephew when he graduates in June, he's a nerd too.

I did call the police and the other guys insurance wants to take the car and do an inspection. I hope it can be fixed but I'm not too sure since the trunk won't close. I also hear a clicking comming from the affected tire when taking a slow right turn (while decelerating and turning actually).

I still have my 2016 Prius and I just got a Bolt EUV last month, so it's not a huge problem, I was just looking forward to giving the car to my nephew.

    Thoughts?

sorry to hear it! it doesn't look too bad, but if the hatch won't close, and the wheel is making noise, there may be more than meets the eye

Do not let them "take" it!
YOU should take it to toyota dealership and have them look at it and give you an estimate.
Then take it to at least two other reapair shops, hopefully, someone good, and get estimates.
Do not tell the other shops you went anywhere else.
Did the police give him a ticket saying he was at fault? If so this is good.
Call your insurance company and let them take care of it.

If the air bags went off, likely they will total it because they cost so much.

A lot can happy from a seemingly "simple" hit.

I've repaired these... You can get a new Bumper cover with matching paint on Ebay for $400 and then get a big hammer to pound/bend back the sheet metal so the rear hatch latch lines up again and put the bumper cover on and you're done. You might need a pair of bumper clips too...

Of course first step is to get as much money as you can from the driver's insurance company before you fix it on the cheap...

:) thanks yall. I'm not the most handy, if it's repairable, I'll let the repair people do their thing.

The fact that the trunk won't close concerns me alot. I think the frame may be bent. Also the suspension concerns me. But if I can get it fixed and still give it to my nephew, that's enough.

If I can't get it fixed and they total it, I'm wondering if the wheels may be compatible with my 2016 II eco. They are both 15 in. If so I may keep one as a spare.

Oh well, thanks yall. It's just a pita

Your insurance company will probably have a place for you to go
and they can tell you if the frame is bent and repairable.

    Thanks yall.

Sadly they did declare it a total loss. Frame bent, exhaust messed up, and some kind of pan was damaged... he talked fast.

Anyway, they offered me 10,400. I'm ok with that, I'll get something else for my nephew.

Thanks for the advice. I am now down to 1 prius. :)

Wow, that definitely doesn't look totalled. How does that work; do you have to accept their offer? A bird in hand?

    What's the miles on it?

I can just see them repairing and selling at a profit.

Looks like the hatch is slightly stoved-in. Probably ricochets around to the hatch hinges, but very fixable. Tail light looks untouched.

Was the car paid off? They tend to total a car quickly if it is.......................:(

Yes, im surprised too. It had 109,500 miles. Yes, I paid cash for the car.

I considered negotiating, but looking at comps in my area, it's not a terrible offer and frankly I just want to move on. I did like the car.

I didn't get any photos from underneath before they took it, I wish I had now bc I am curious.
