This one gets me confused. Last November my cat on my 05 was stolen. So I got an aftermarket cat from amazon. Finally got around to installing. The donut is smaller than the original. So I will get the oem from Toyota. But I keep getting told that I should be able to drive the Prius with no cat. I now this to be true on older cars. But the power was not at all available when I drove it around the block with out the cat on. New cat is on and no power and I can hear the leak but not feel it anywhere. No codes no check engine light. Down stream O2 is new and works. .Just asking if I might be missing something.

You have no power because you bolted on a cat that doesn't sound too good I mean what is this the $118 cat off of eBay? I mean it would seem to me that before I put that cat on from eBay I would have held it up to the light see if I can see through it blow some hair through it I don't even know what some of these cats you buy off eBay when you look down the pipe things don't look so well. So I'm not sure exactly what you have or what's happened You don't have a lot of power in a Prius to begin with so exhaust being stopped up is definitely going to be not cool and when I drove mine which is an '08 '09 type without the cat there was no issue driving the car and it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be probably because of the detuned 1.6 l engine one NZ. But I wasn't trying to kill it I was just driving down to the exhaust shop to have the guy finish up the welding at the back of the cat to the muffler sounds like you bought the same cat I did because the bolts and the gasket were crap I reused the factory gasket which was laying in the trunk of the car and actually the factory bolts and springs because the new ones were not going to be correct so I just didn't use them and the cat still sitting out there on the '05 car that was running fine before the battery died and the host of other problems were going on and I just parked the car one of these days I'll get the cat off run a pipe through it gut it completely. I don't have emissions here in my town so I can have the check engine light on and have no problems The only code I have is the catalytic converter code and it never goes away no matter what you do with the O2 sensors the heater circuit is not having any problems all of that is working fine they're factory sensors they may be old but they're functioning and the catalytic converters the only weak link because of the type test the flood test whatever the nonsense it goes on maybe these aftermarket cats can't stand up to that The factory cats can until the light starts coming on at 200,000 plus miles and then I don't know what the dealers remedy was to make this go away I don't think anybody ever did to be honest with you I think people lot of people got rid of these cars because of that problem and they went to the junkyard where I get the cars and parts from even with a new cat direct from Toyota I physically haven't heard or seen posted but I'm sure it is here I guess some people have gotten it to go away I don't know if Toyota has a certain way of being able to enter the cars firmware and alter something I would certainly think computer programmers would have been on this years ago seemingly how that's all of these computer people own or want to own Prius but doesn't seem like that's happened I mean there are engine management systems I can buy to put on my hot rod that can take care of all this stuff tec systems comes to mind. But yet no computer people from Asia America anywhere in the world have tried to tackle a simple firmware problem from a company like Toyota That's pretty funny because everybody can hack GM been doing it for 30 years plus when Toyota mods was a hole in the wall in Torrance California we had all kinds of work arounds for problems which is no need to go and do here because that just became a big franchise and TRD stickers that stuff's pretty much dead now just retail of coolers and bumper stickers.

It is an insult to all the other users of the forum.

If that's the best he can do, he should just go away.
