I stumbled across online instructions on how to turn off the annoying chime that tells you the Subaru seatbelt is not fastened. Obviously, I wear the belt if I am driving -- but lots of times not driving, but car is on and it is very annoying.

Would have loved that in the Prius.

Of course, I don't know if it works for anything other than Subaru, but:

I've heard of similar procedures for other brands. Carista, Techstream, etc. might also be able to do it.

Somewhere, buried in theThread I linked to, someone mentioned Carista & Toyota. But I no longer have a Toyota, so.

Found a post for turning it off for a Camry, but all the comments couldn't get it to work.
Subaru is more obnoxious with their chime.
But then my 2022 Subaru has a lower insurance premium than the 2016 Toyota it replaced.

In Australia, cars over five years old have to undergo an annual roadworthiness inspection to stay licensed. If the seat belt chime doesn't work, it's an automatic fail.

Easy fix. Disconnect 12v before inspection. Then disable after.t:)

It was a user configuration choice on my Gen3 Prii. I turned off the backup beepers on both of mine -- with a ScanGauge on the first, the dealership did it at delivery time on the second -- but left the seatbelt beepers active.

    The Gen2 wasn't similarly configurable?

Gen2 there was some mild chicken dance to disable reverse beep. Never heard about seat belt.

D*mn, I tried aging to 73 years. I still hear fine but ignore it anyway ... privileges of old age ... faking deafness. Sad to say, we had an older man kill his wife of 53 years ... she had replaced the batteries in his hearing aid.

My last vehicle inspection was at the dealership...three years ago.
I've never been tempted to disable my seatbelt chime because as a husband, a father, and a grandparent I'm already adept at filtering out unwanted noise.
Tinnitus helps of course. When the doctor told me that I would have a more difficult time hearing women and children, I asked how much and are there any adverse side effects...

    She was not amused.

Have hearing loss since my teens.

I was big into target shooting when I was a kid and in those days no one wore ear protection.

And, I "illegally" worked in a metal forming factory each summer when I was a teen from age 15-18. Again, loud noise, no protection. But I needed the cash for college...

In my late 20s I went for a hearing test. Doc said I had significant loss from something to something. I asked what that meant...he said I would have trouble with women's voices and small children. I said Thank God.

    Wife hates this story.

I don't and won't turn mine off. I just buckle the seat belt.

Yeah, sounds easy, but just about as much PIA as listening to the chime.

Bisco, I did not think you moved at all. :ROFLMAO:

But, the big deal is I have a very long driveway....like just over 500 yards, which is more than a quarter of a mile.

Winter, summer not so much, I may have to stop 3 times or more and get out and move debris so I can continue.

    Screw the chimes.

Guess I should also downvote this idea.

I will activate the seatbelt when I need the belt. I am not a fool.

Dad's 'driveway' is just over a half mile long, with 3 gates with variable open/closed status depending on season and cattle location. Worst case, 6 stops to open or close a gate, though 2 and 0 stops are more common.

The grandchildren were taught that seatbelts are needed when driving past the outer gate onto the public road. On the farm (lower speed), not needed.

My farming friends tend to just leave the seatbelt in their LandCruiser bucked when they're driving from gate to gate on the farm.
