Egr stud problem

    I was trying to take egr off but the bottom stud not coming out. Looks like corroded and now also worn out
    What to do now?

    Mendel might have some ideas. Use PB Blaster on it and let it sit.....then try to tighten it slightly before trying to loosen it again. after that I would try heating it up with a torch.

    Sometimes you can put two nuts and then you have new surface to turn on then before you start turning on it maybe use your MAP gas plumber's torch or a small pencil torch to heat up the stud that will tend to let it come loose that stud really has to come out?

    yes gonna try this. If doesnt work, gonna put everything back and will drive the car until dies lol :)

    I used a torch and wd40. Hit a couple times and worked it two threads out two threads in back and forth back and forth until i finally got them out. Took me like an hour, but worth it considering they came out clean.

    Presuming #1, you could try taking #2 out, and then you can pull the EGR assembly forward and off, without removal of that rearmost (#1) stud. The assembly will bang on a metal conduit running over top, but if you remove a mounting bracket bolt on that, it can be wiggled out of the way enough to clear.

    That said, removing the stud at location #2 is not a lot of fun, hard to get at, and very cranky all the way coming out, due to steel stud in aluminum head. I found a 1/4" ratchet wrench could get in there, and it was one click at a time, all the way out. If you manage that, just leave it off permanently.

    Yes, it was #1, and put everything back after trying two nuts because almost no space to use a ratchet. I gotta accept that this is a pretty tough DIY and I gave up at some point. Even taking the hoses off was challenging (to me). I thought to spray break cleaner inside from hose openings but I am not sure it will work

    The bottom stud on mine (and the bracket that it goes through) mysteriously disappeared. By now , you no doubt have found a solution, but my preferred method was to get the bottom NUT off that stud, leave the stud in place, and simply (ok, NOT simply) ... remove both of the rear studs at the exhaust manifold. See how they compete with each other? Sorry I was late to help on this, but perhaps others might find this useful in the future. Studs.png
