I know it’s probably too early to tell. But does anyone think this will be possible considering it’s optional add on?

I would imagine, if the wiring harness is the same. The bezel looks to be a universal fit for both sizes.

Yea that’s what I noticed as well. I'm just hoping for it to be plug and play.

Honestly just want the bigger screen for Apple CarPlay. I think it looks nicer as well. Don’t get me wrong the 8 inch screen is good enough and happy with it. But if I can get a bigger screen, I would definitely love to upgrade to the bigger screen.

    Thanks for the feedback. I agree the 12 inch looks better. So you can manage Apple car play with 8 inch, right? I won’t be subscribing to anything and so far the XLE’s coming with 12 inch screen include the glass roof package which I don’t want. : }

It's too early to know for certain, but I don't think you're going to like the price. I'm guessing it will be between $3000 and $4000 even after discounts.

You’re welcome. Yes Apple CarPlay works perfectly fine on the 8 inch. I just meant to say I like to have Apple CarPlay on a bigger screen. I think It looks nicer with extra screen real estate.

if that’s the case, lol I’ll probably pass on it then.

I guess the smaller screen will be less expensive to replace if it breaks in a few years... maybe. : } Thanks again!

Not practical, as these multimedia units cost more than the internal-combustion engine.

The only difference is the display size. The specs and functionality are identical.

There is one subtle difference: PVM is displayed differently, but I don't think you can get the PVM with the smaller display; so, it is a moot issue.

If these 8 inch screens still use a DIN sized chassis, there may be much cheaper aftermarket solutions for those looking for larger screens for CarPlay. Many are moveable on a pivot for better screen to driver positioning too.

IIRC with 4th gen the bigger screen MSRP was something like $6K USD.

I don't think there is any aftermarket option, as the multimedia screen controls many of the vehicle functions. It is not just a radio or a radio with a Compact Cassette player if it is a high-end model as in the good old days.

Found the MSRP prices for both infotainment units. You might want to sit down.

    8" infotainment unit
    86140-47A70
    $5,825.71

    12.3" infotainment unit
    86100-47860

Holy smokes…better not need to replace one of those. I’d be staring at a blank screen for the remaining life of the car.

The aftermarket is catching up. They can't replace every situation yet, but they're fighting a good fight.

    Well, I did a test!

I bought a 12.3" screen off of ebay that came off a wrecked 2023 Prius Limited (this is imporant later), to test if it works with the 8" wiring harness. Everything worked EXCEPT:

    1. Toyota Connected Services. (This can be remedided with a call to Toyota Connected services department.)

    2. IMPORTANT: The volume knob and a volume control on the steering wheel were no longer operable (except when you want to mute the audio by pressing the knob and by pressing and holding the "Mode" button on the steering wheel). This kept music at 50%, which was very loud, with no way to adjust it. I have come to learn that the JBL audio system uses and external Amplifier that would adjust the audio levels, including volume and audio tuning (ex. Bass, Treble, and Mids).

The 12.3" screen from the Limited models WILL NOT WORK on the LE/SE wiring harness since it use an internal Ampifier versus the Limited external Amplifier.

It was brought to my attention that there are may be 2 different types of 12.3" displays for the 2023 Prius (Can't confirm if this is true with part numbers).

One was made for the JBL audio system and another meant for the Non-JBL audio system version.

Since the XLE/XSE has the ability to be outfitted with a 12.3" display and not the 8 speaker w/ external Amplifier. It should, in theory, work for the LE wiring harness. Since they, the LE/SE 8" and the XLE/XSE 12.3" display, would need to use the internal Amplifier and not rely on an external Amplifier like the Limited screen does.

TLDR: Limited 12.3" display does not work for the LE/SE. But, the upgraded 12.3" display given to the XLE/XSE may work on the LE/SE (NOT CONFIRMED).

I'll do more research and update this thread if I discover something new or get my hands on a XLE/XSE 12.3" display.
