So, my new to me car is doing the dreaded combination display issue, and I am about to embark on this repair.

Can anyone suggest items needed to order and have on hand? I have the display parts on order and know how to work on electronics so this is not an issue. What I am looking for are common things that snap, crack, bust or possible tools that are out of the normal to this type of repair?

I have hand tools, etc. Got an order for a dash removal tool set, (pry bars, super long needle nose, etc)

Any other tips or hints would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

You really don't need anything to get the dash top off No plastic spluges or nothing once you remove the vents carefully the upper glove box the pad that holds the start button or power button and the MFD unit the dash literally snatches right off two or three screws facing you for said - numerous plugs etc you'll have the plastic pieces that go on the a pillars and their fillers generally out laid to the side bowed in something and then you're there. Mine keeps coming back on at some point I'll order one fromrhe dudes down in Texas. I think it's 150 bucks 130 bucks something in your old one and they send you one all tweaked I think they might even be able to deal with the mileage business and all that too not sure wouldn't matter to me matter of fact the higher the mileage the better.

Sorry for the long response time, I work on call and get side tracked. Thanks for the information I will get on it as soon as time allows. I got all the capacitors needed to rebuild the display board. Only thing that saves me with this is I know how to work on electronics.

be as careful as possible with the vents, and be prepared to replace them if they crack

As mentioned, the center dash vents can/will crack. Take pics of every electrical connector you remove- don't want to forget any when reassembling.

You tube videos for CM removal.

I found that having skinny "bent tip" needle nose electronics pliers makes it easier to untwist the special clips at the tops of the A pillar trim.

When putting the board back in the CM, make sure the white cable on the right edge is seated on both ends.

It helps to know that the vent pulls out horizontally in a motion that is parallel to the ground. Therefore you need to grip both the top and bottom of the vent and pull evenly at those points. If using trim tools, ease the top and bottom a fraction at a time so it comes out horizontally.
