That explains the incentive structure for manufacturers to favor trade secrets where their mechanical innovations are concerned. (Even so, take a look at how many mechanical innovation patents automakers file.)

It doesn't at all fit the incentive structure around software user interfaces or APIs, which, by their nature, cannot be secret.

Just saw over on insideEVs that the Lyric has outsold this nearly 5:1 in the first quarter.

What's amazing is that there's only a 3k difference in price, but fit and finish, well, everything else is so much better on the Cadillac. The Lexus is seriously overpriced.

    Is this the Lexus Cimmaron?

GM has been in the EV game for a long time. Tesla has been in it even longer. Toyota just got into it.

If you're saying Toyota did a bad job of seeing where the market was heading and is behind everyone else, yeah, I agree.

This isn't even Lexus first BEV. They did a UX EV that was sold in China in Europe. It too was shorter range and slower charging than the competition that were often lowered priced. It's like Toyota isn't even listening to what was said about their first try. Too focused on compliance EVs for China?

Not sure why you left out Toyota because both Toyota & GM have both been doing EVS since the 1990s. It's just GM finally gave up on their EV smear campaign - while Toyota had more pushback from their leadership when it came to changing course.
When Toyota realized that they didn't "know Their audience" - they canceled their entire Scion division which included their ridiculous 2-seater EV with its ridiculous 38 miles of range & $45,000 ish price tag.

Their 10yrs earlier gen1 RAV4 EV would run circles around this thing.
Their old CEO insisted no one wants EV's because they are expensive for the amount of range they have. Well yeah, but others are less expensive & go further. Self-fulfilling prophecy.
