Is Gen 5 Prius really better-looking than Gen 4 Prius Prime?

I think it looks sharp in black but I don’t like the black wheel covers or whatever they are called. For some reason they look like a temporary fix.

    What are you waiting for?!

I think the monochrome is a great look... my only reservation would be whether or not the car would heat up more because it's black.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I’m not concerned about sales, it’s my personal opinion. I hope you have many happy years with yours

Wait what? The Gen 4 Prime has fantastic headlights in both brightness and spread. It’s a step above the bi-beam headlights of the regular Gen 4 and miles ahead of my EV6’s “multi-reflector LED”.

I thought only the Gen 5 Prime has actual lights in the lower corner? Does it come in the regular Liftback too?

A potential challenge I see, is this car having less options than your current ride.. and that making you unhappy.

I'm prepared to drive a bare bones LE. Make sure you are too!

I would LOVE a solar panel roof though. It would be cool to get back in the car to find my bars all full. :D

From a distance they really have an original, futuristic look IMO. I think putting a little shine on them with a plastic protectant will help. The idea is to go for a painted aluminum look as much as possible. Make no mistake though, the covers are for air flow first, and looks second. ;)

Somehow, the headlights alone aren't enough for others to notice the car at night.
Well on the US site, the photos for both show them, and neither feature list mentions them. The couple articles comparing them I checked don't mention the accent lights in the differences.

When I was shopping black was on the do not ever buy again. I've had a black car, they get too hot, the AC has to work harder to keep it cooler.

That’s how we feel after our first black car ever

My car is black and it gets hot as balls (100+F) here in Kansas. It also gets cold as balls (-0 F) so perhaps it all evens out? I personally haven't noticed a difference other than car washes must be more frequent and black REALLY shines!

Science says black cars are hotter.

Why I bought a white Corolla. Black cars in Florida are a big no-go. They get about 15% hotter compared to white cars. Black also shows swirl marks dominantly. They only look great when they are freshly washed and waxed.

I do not know, I've been told black cars look better in the shade.

Black cars work great in the Artic tundra.

Just as most cars tend to grow in size with each generation, my question is, if they come out with a car that's now too big or too small campared to a previous generation, what would be a suitable replacement for that previous generation since the current no longer is an option?

In the case of the Prius, I've allways wanted a Camry or Avalon (now Crown) station wagon/estate as a replacement. There's talk that there will be a Crown wagon/estate possibly in the near future. However, I think it might be a lot more expensive than a Prius.

Apparently you're also more likely to get hit by another driver if you drive a black car than if you drove a white car with grey (aka "silver") being somewhere in between.

I thought that everyone nowadays buys grey cars. Unless they want to fool others into thinking they could be a police officer. Then they buy white or black cars. Personally I don't like these neutral colors. I must be opposite of society, everyone seems to want neutral cars and houses and then die their hair some bright unnatural color. I'd rather have natural colored hair and brightly colored cars and home. Give me a grape purple Prius! Lime green would be good too! Maybe cherry red! Anyone else like fuchcia? Sky blue?

I don’t mind cars getting larger if the mpg’s keep improving.
If I want something smaller, there are plenty of options.
That being said, Prius didn’t grow much from 2004 through 2022.
There was no need to make it smaller, that was never a complaint from people who wouldn’t buy one

That may be a fair statement. But there are reasons to have a smaller car besides economy and fuel mileage.
    1. Space constraintes.
    2. Smaller and lighter can mean better handling. This is a concern about the Mazda Miata growing into Mazda's commitment to havea fleet of 100% EV's. With today's EV weights it will be hard to keep the handling characteristics of the current Miatas without giving it a pathetically small battery. I'd like to see a Tesla and Miata duke it out on an extremely curvy track.
    3. In my mind there is also efficiency on the table that is lost. If the next gen is 10% bigger and get's 10% better fuel mileage, how much more fuel mileage would it have gotten had it stayed the same. This is something that bothers me about the EV craze. People who were for smaller, more aerodynamic ICEVs now excuse their SUV purchases because they're EVs and so "it doesn't matter anymore" as if there were no need for efficiency improvements just because it's an EV. While perpetual motion is impossible, we could get very close with current technology to forms of transportation that require a mere fraction of the energy needed to run your average EV of today. The less energy needed the fewer sources we will need for that energy.

Well, the gen 5 lost efficiency with poor exterior design and larger wheels, which could have been put into a larger interior

XLE and Limited have LED accent lights in the front lower corners. LE does not. I don't know if SE does.

IIHS rated both Gen 4 Prius's and Gen 4 Prius Prime's headlights acceptable out of poor, marginal, acceptable, and good.

The car pictured is from another dealer. I am No. 2 on the waiting list at Longo Toyota for a black SE.

The problem is that I don't like the gray, didn't like silver when I had it, didn't like red when I had it, and can't imagine myself in a white car. That only leaves black as an option.

In terms of downgrades, I would lose auto-on headlights, three-door smart key, power seats, heated seats (not needed), garage-door opener, autodimming mirror, head-up display, JBL sound, wireless charger, faux-leather seats, cargo space, head room, and higher fuel efficiency. The only upgrades are TSS 3.0 and Android Auto.
