Is Gen 5 Prius really better-looking than Gen 4 Prius Prime?

Too bad on cars they don't use that material that reflects visible and ultraviolet light while sheding infrared at the same time so that it becomes up to 15° cooler than ambient temperatures.

    Can be cooler looking too. : }

Here’s a white Prime that looks super nice out in the wild. Not my photo.

And you’ve made me go for an SE instead of an XSE.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is the roof not white? Seems like the sun would hit the roof more than any other part of the car.

When I am called by my dealer, I may pass on the trade-in for now though:
    • Prius Prime is currently overpriced even at MSRP, with no factory rebates.
    • There may be issues with the initial model year.
    • My blue Gen 4 Prius Prime Limited is a great car.
    • Interest rates are currently high.
    • Prius Prime does not depreciate much for future trade-ins.
Trade-in now would cost about $8,000.

So, perhaps wait two or three more years?

    The major downsides of SE:
    • You don't get the nice wheels.
    • No auto-on lights.
However, the fuel efficiency and BEV range on SE is significantly higher.

Yeah… the range loss really defeats the purpose of the car, in my mind at least.

But it is held to stricter safety standards of a car than a motorcycle.;)

Looks like a Prime. Could be the solar roof.

What is pictured is a preproduction model. Nevertheless, there have been no Prius Primes with solar roofs built or scheduled to be built yet. It is not clear when/if there will be one. In fact, Toyota has currently stopped the production of XSE Premium entirely.

That said, solar roof and glass roof would look similar from a distance.

OK, I think I have made a decision and will wait for 2025 Prius Prime for two more years from now until summer 2025.

In addition to the points made above:
    • Hopefully 2025 Prius Prime will feature TSS 4.0. If not, I can wait until 2026 for TSS 4.0.
    • A refresh can make the car more attractive, with nicer bumpers, nicer lights, more color choices, etc.
    • There may be more standard features like auto-on headlights.
    • Just like in investing, patience is a virtue.

Here’s one at the dealership near me. It was coming in for a customer but it was their second choice. Looks like they didn’t take it.

I prefer how it looks with the glass roof but wouldn’t buy it. Figure more to possibly go wrong plus price. Their lot is starting to fill up a bit but mostly SUV’s.

If I already had a Prime, I would wait too. No point in rushing.

I'll trade in for a 2026 Prius Prime SE with TSS 4.0 in summer 2026 then! According to my calculations, my car payments will be only $108 a month. As an added bonus, I get to enjoy my fully loaded blue jewel for another three years.

Wonder why Toyota did not make the 2023 Prime compatible with high speed charging stations. Maybe not worth the added cost for such a short EV range? This will eventually have to be standardized for EV vehicles to survive.

Cost and Toyota being super conservative.

    Not even for Japan?

It might in Japan. The previous gen and PiP both had CHAdeMO there. Differences in the markets are why it isn't available here. In addition to having a more built up public charging network, home charging is less common or slower in Japan. Here, gas is cheap, and leaving the hardware for DC charging off lets them lower the MSRP a little.

When it comes to that meme, an old Prius will not get you laid. The only females that would like to see their husband drive a Prius may be rather of a controlling nature, knowing that no other woman will go after him when he is out and about in a boxy looking, slow car.

Heck, I don't get ANY looks in my new Corolla, and that one looks arguably sleeker and better than any old Prius.

    --

When I'm out in this one... I get looks from females every single time. It's almost obnoxious, considering that they can only judge the car at that point, and not me.
