Citroën style hydropneumatic suspension was really weird. Yet eccentrically pleasing. Have you ever heard its sounds?

My Dad had a Citroen BX which had it. It was the best feature of a generally-terrible car.

His was the GTi, so it was supposed to be sporty. The suspension was incredibly pliant and comfortable, but then it would corner completely flat. And you could fill the trunk with bags of cement, and it would stay flat. You could also raise the car to go along dirt tracks and stuff with better ground clearance.

And it sighed, like it was very happy.

Sounds like the Avalon. The Avalon also ghost presses the touch sensitive buttons and will turn on or off, or up or down the climate controls without any input. It's very annoying.
Interesting. When I press the voice button on the Avalon it's allways by accident. Then for the next 5 minutes I'm trying to figure out how to turn it off.

Maybe I should try using it, but seeing how the navigation is out-of-date and inputing addresses manually has stopped working and I can't connect any phones via Bluetooth anymore either because that is also broken I have no idea if it voice activation will work correctly. But I won't know until I try. I've only owned this car for 5 years now, I'm still trying to figure it out. The only steering wheel button I've figured out how to use is the one that changes the menu stuff below the speedometer.

I do have the menus set to Spanish, but not everyone in the family speaks Spanish and not everyone speaks English either... Why can't we just have a non-prejudice car that doesn't require drivers and passengers to know one certain language? And where's the ASL option??

In my car, if I press it by accident, I just press it again to cancel. It's been the same in most rentals I've driven recently (Kia/Peugeot/MG/Toyota (Corolla)/Mini/Nissan).

Is this car quite old? Is it a standard DIN infotainment system that you could replace with a working one?

I think the problem is that it would then not know which language you were speaking. Just think - if Audi had a voice system like Mercedes' "Hey Mercedes" system, and you were driving an e-tron. It's all very well for you to say "Hey e-tron" if it knows you're speaking English. But what if it thinks you're speaking Québécois and insulting it?

There's no braille option on the touch screen either.

2013 Avalon Hybrid. The infotainment center has been fixed once already. It's integrated into the dash as far as I can tell and the AUX and USB ports and shows the Hybrid info too. The USB also no longer works for audio on a thumb drive which it did originally. I haven't tried the other apps like iHeart Radio as I just never have used those apps before, I just use the CD player and FM and AM radio. There's also Sirus (or is it XM?) radio, but I think I'd need a subscription or something which I don't have.

Like I say, I found out the previous owner had fixed the same issue a year or so before I bought it. But then it acted up again about a year after we got it and I haven't bothered to have a dealership or mechanic look at it, except one mechanic in town who said he couldn't fix it. I also tried fixing it myself by disconnecting the 12V for several hours and pressing all the buttons and stuff like that to try to reset it but nothing has worked. Iv'e tried googling it and looking up YouTube videos to no avail. It's been like this for the past 3 or 4 years and since it's apparently going to just happen again after getting fixed at a dealership which I'd have to drive several hours to reach I've just given up on the idea of fixing it.

D a r n it! How are blind people supposed to drive in these fancy new cars!

I've just been Google-imaging it: we didn't have the same Avalon as you.

It looks like it is removable. You might be able to get a replacement head unit out of a written-off Avalon, and that might work properly.

In my Gen II Prius, the radio looked integrated, but it wasn't: I was able to replace it with a new head unit that gave me Bluetooth and stuff.

How do we know another unit would fix the problem? When the problem happened, there was also a glitch in the guage panel, namely it lets me choose menu with the car in motion that before couldn't be chosen. A lot of what happens with the infotainment screen seems to also be linked to that, but is the opposite, not allowing me to make changes even with the car stopped and in park.

Here is an eBay listing for the part:

I don't. But it could be worth asking an expert. It sounds like an incredibly frustrating thing to have to deal with.

I remember that car in the chase scene in the movie The Longest Yard with Burt Reynolds. Weird but cool suspension.

Infotainment head units are integrated with a lot of systems. I understand installing after market in the Sonic meant no longer hearing the turn signal clicks, as those came from the speakers.

Ya well, with the exception of the Nissan Leaf that ALSO had problems with the infotainment system and I took to a dealer to fix and they said they couldn't fix it, none of my previous cars had Bluetooth, nav-systems, voice activation or the like, Therefore not having them work on this car hasn't been a big deal. In reality, I'd rather just not have these features on a car; they are in no way selling points to me for getting a new car. If I end up needing a new car and have to decide over two cars, one that has these kinds of features and another that doesn't, I'd be more inclined to get the car without them.

This is especially true with me doing 20,000 miles per year or so. Therefore, even if I buy a brand new car, while the powertrain may still be under warranty after nearly 5 years the infotainment system will likely be out of warranty after less than 2, long before I even pay off the car.

Now if there were a 100,000 mile warranty on the infotainment stuff, then I might be a bit more interested. But when you buy a car 5-year-old car at 50,000 miles, drive it a year and the infotainment system stops working correctly, it makes me want to cut it out and install a normal stereo like we had back in day and then just make some nice looking stained wood trim to make it fit in. I'm not sure how I'd integrate the HVAC controls though...

    Link is good Bob.

I actually paid the out of State Dealer just over $136K, had it shipped and TTL in TX. This IS my daily driver with over 76,000 miles on the clock now. Still take the Prius out now and then to keep her healthy though.
