am working on a prius 2005 which has been flashing the ready indicator for one second but not running.l measured all cells and found 1 dead 0V and 4 reading 6.26 V and the rest 7.3V. I had already bought 3 cells reading 7.6V because the last scan by a scan owner showed 3 cells fault.l replaced the 0v cell and the other 2 which was reading 6.26v of the 28 cells.l charged the remaining 2 reading 6.26V but when voltage reach 7.6V, voltage drops on its own to 6.6 first charge, second charge 6.8 while the rest are above 7.3V.The car is still not starting the total voltage surprisingly is not steady, its giving random figures 193V,35V .Now with only the multimeter and spanners what can l do to make car run?

Where are you taking your reading from? Did you plug the orange disconnect all the way in?

Any of the modules dropping below 7.2 should be replaced.
It also sounds like your wire harness with the voltage sensing tabs is very likely faulty (cracked tabs or wires) or you have corrosion issues on that plug or in the ECU socket. These are all very common problems with the Gen 2.

If you will not use any tools but those, the problem may be very difficult or insoluble.

From the last scan by a scan owner, did you get any more details that you could post? What trouble codes were present?

How difficult is it to obtain a scan tool in Zambia?

I was tempted to use the barometer story: take the multimeter and spanners to someone who has a scan tool, and speak to them as follows: "here I have a very fine multimeter, and if you will allow me the use of your scan tool to diagnose my car, I will give you this multimeter."

But I thought better of it, because you might still need the multimeter.

It's basically a 211 volt system . Which at present time of your reading you do not have so you may need to get up near that and then I'm not sure what you're meaning by the car not starting You mean it won't ready The green light on the dash? When you say won't run what's not running The car goes forward and backwards but you don't hear the gas engine coming on? Usually if you can get it into gear and you start backing up the engine will kick on with him like 13 seconds or something It's just the nature of the beast unless your battery's brand new and fully charged and all of that it's going to start almost immediately after throwing it into reverse to back out and get ready to go Tell my car would do this with a completely failing hybrid battery it just ran all the time the engine and the fan in the back by the battery was on all the time The minute you push the start button to get it ready the fan came on and then the engine came on about the same time the fan came on and never shut off and even then I was getting 39 mi to the gallon so not huge complaints just weird here in the engine running all the time for about 5 days.

Thanks for the info, will try to charge the 6.8V cell to see if the can hold above 7.3V,l had this car since 2012 done over 200,000km,the ready indicator green one shows that the car is ready to move either in EV mode or on engine.

There are also other systems reviewed in that thread. Some of them will give you more information than those can.

Did you actually go through that workup step-by-step?

Random swinging voltage may be related to breaks in 'frame wire #2' and corrosion at HV battery ECU pins and #2 connector.

Hi guys so l replaced the two cells which where under 7V,while doing that l cleaned the corrosion in the HV battery connectors and pins.
The Ready batery came back on without flashing.L run the car for two days and the ready Indicator flashed got it On after three trial.is the same problem (Flashing Ready Indicator) coming back again?
    l made Four Obdservations
1.There was a mild sound of sparks at the back when driving but not when idling.(could it be the two terminals l couldnt torque because of damaged threads?)
2.The Hv fan is continously runing.it used to stop sometimes
3.There is error indicators on the dashboard Red Triangle, check engine and another orange looks like a brake symbol.
4 .the Dashboad is no lighting up when turning ON only after some trials
l know many will ask for a scan so l got a guy with the launch scanner and attached is the report.
How can l fix esp the major problems in layman term?

you need to replace the stripped terminals and torque everything properly, you're in immanent danger of an explosion, and burning your car down along with any occupants and anything nearby.
