Gen 5 Prius and Prius Prime owners thread

I don’t like it. I think because my hands are all over the wheel

 

Some expecting it in the mid-cycle refresh.

 

What are your dimensions? The bottom of the wheel doesn't poke my legs and I see the instrument panel gauges perfectly. The wheel on the 2023 is incredibly adjustable.

 

I saw your picture on how to set the steering wheel and I was able to get it adjusted within a couple minutes. Seat took longer really. Totally natural and feels great. I really don't see what all the griping is about. Now the last gen set up... that was garbage compared to this new system.

I really missed having a PHEV. Totally in love with it. Right at home next to the honking V8 muscle car next to it. Too bad I couldn't get the Prius in black, would've been a nice Yin and Yang set up.

 

I have a 67 Mustang with a beast motor in it. Can't save the planet all the time...

 

I am blown away how much I have adapted to the new Prius compared to my initial impression when first climbing into it. I went from, "I don't think this will work" (I'm 6'3 barefoot) to, "I can't believe how comfortable and enjoyable this is to drive". Every time I can think up an excuse to run an errand, I get excited lol.

And I'm pissed that I haven't been able to top my previous MPG high yet (138.7 over 7 miles ) - achieved in the Gen4 - with only 350 miles on her lol. Perspective...

And still haven't floored it yet. Not even close. Maybe the equivalent acceleration of flooring my Gen4, so that means I've not experienced any of the new horsepower. Can't wait to hit the 1,000 mile mark.

 

Another thing that's SUPER nice is the clearance. I used to have to be VERY careful in my Gen4 opening the doors next to curbs. The bottom of the door would absolutely grind into curbs, dirt, sidewalk, etc. And everything but the lowest parking stops were a no-go. Steep ramps would scrape. Now I'm driving what appears to be a low-slung sports car and I don't hit anything. In fact, I have inches of clearance on curbs that used to be scrape-city.

Pure magic on that engineering maneuver Toyota!

And thanks for the extended sun visors! OMG those shorties in the Gen4 were annoying.

 

Sure is taking a long time for them to show up at dealers. Seems any coming in are already spoken for. Maybe come Sept/Oct supply will start to appear on dealer lots.

 

Only way they are appearing on any lots is if the dealerships have mark ups on them. I'm not expecting any MSRP dealerships to have anything on the lot in the foreseeable future. You'll have to get on many lists and wait

 

Well I am an idiot. With that out of the way...

One of the things I love about the Prius is the electric AC. I routinely lock my fur buddy in the car while I shop -- coming back to her resting comfortably.

Several years ago, I left my keys in the car when I did my little lock-while-running hack (roll windows up from outside). My spare was of course in my home. I promised myself to never again lock any door like this without first verifying the keys being in my pocket.

Well......... today I freaking did it again. ‍

I wasn't about to have anybody stretch my NEW windows with an air bladder (That's what Toyota Roadside wanted to do). I asked them about the subscription services and if I could subscribe to them now to unlock my car. They said that has to be done beforehand. Wrong!!

So everybody with a new 2023: you have two services that are free for 10 years, one that's free for a year (includes remote lock start), and another wi-fi service that's free for a little bit.

I didn't want to deal with any of it because I figured it was a "put in your credit card then forget about it scam". Nothing off the sort! Just go in the app and okay all the trials... like right now lol!

When I went in to start the trials a moment ago, I had full control of my car remotely in about 5 mins. That could have saved me a hefty locksmith bill.

 

Interesting, I had thought…was told by toyota via email reply if I recall that (well at least on my 2020 highlander hybrid) the a/c would run only like for 15 to 20 minutes then turn off. I might have done a post about it prior. If the Prius is different that is nice though guess you might get a few replies from others on the topic of leaving doggie in car.

 

People camp in these little cars for weeks. The climate control units work really well for long periods of time. But always test your vehicle VERY thoroughly before leaving your buddy inside.

The new 2023's have an annoying "feature" that requires you to select "no" to shutting the car off after an hour, whenever you open the door with the system still running.

They are asking for accidents not allowing us to shut that off permanently.

 

Around these parts, some excitable folks would smash your window to "save the dog." Seriously. With impunity. It's put out there in public service messages.

 

OMG! That would cause me to react in a very aggressive manner. I have only had one testy interaction since 2019. Came out of a store with my car surrounded by a family. My dog was resting on her bean bag with the car at 68F. I tried to explain to them that the dog is comfortable, even inviting them to stick their head in the car. If someone broke my window...

Tesla has a nice way of notifying passersby that the pup is safe and comfortable. This reminds me, I need to get a little sign for my car. Maybe something to sit on the seat, or stick on the window?

My dog lives a life better than a lot of humans I suspect. I'd leave her at home more, but she has a bit of separation anxiety. Hyperventilating when I return home and such. In the car though, she is happy as a clam.

 

Putting up a sign on your window will probably a good idea. You'll have to be proactive against overzealous people like that.

 

I'm in Kansas, where we consider our car our home (Castle Doctrine). Folks better have a REALLY good reason before they start breaking my car's windows...

One problem I just thought of with respect to putting up a sign is that it ADVERTISES I have a dog in the car. Maybe not a good idea either. She is quite low profile lol. Most wouldn't even know she's there. Maybe a sign inside the car on the seat in case somebody wants to go snooping around.

 

Illegal to leave your car idling in Massachusetts, but your welcome to bring your pets into the shops and restaurants

 

I have left a paper sign in front of my front window shade I put up when I park. Not a perfect solution. Though I do concur, it is very easy for someone to think a doggie might be in trouble.
Heck, saw a motorcycle backpack, well someone different. It was black with a mess vent on sides I think. At any rate I did walk over to have a cope check it out as I was worried about the doggie. I did offer it water, with the officer present. He said they would keep an hour on it. Being this was in Florida not, I offer, a good way to ‘store’ a doggie but that is just my take, out in the sun….even be it covered in a fabric pack.

 

That's crazy. A black bag with vents becomes an oven when the sun hits it. You did the right thing. I don't like hearing about stories like this. If a dog is panting, it needs to be checked out. Many types of dogs are not efficient at cooling (think: flat faced types). Beyond 85F and they can get in danger quickly.
