Looks like $650 plus tax and shipping: https://hybridpit.com/ganador-muffler-for-toyota-prius-2010-2015.html

They make all the usual claims of more torque, more power, better MPG... Sure would be cool if someone was able to honestly test this and at least report back that it sounds kinda cool? But that almost never really happens... No need to risk slowing down sales.

Less restriction of the exhaust will lead to lower rpm and will keep the temps down easier and prevent overheating.

Allowing the engine to reach higher speeds easier than my 13 year old stock muffler.

Which is probably caked and partially clogged compared to a new muffler.

Causing back pressure which causes an over working engine and leading to overheating. Screenshot_2023-06-28-19-59-15-1.jpeg Screenshot_2023-06-28-19-59-51-1.jpeg Screenshot_2023-06-28-20-00-09-1.jpeg

Lucky for you I have purchased this item and will be updating my thread on it.

If you are game... I say.. lets Dyno your car as is... then after its installed... These folks still might not even believe it but, we will video and capture as much as we can before and after.

So... why post these? Cheaper means less quality... Cheaper means you aren't about that put the better product on my car lifestyle... is this an attempt to discredit the OP? Do you buy cheaper tires for your Prius? Why not save and put quality products on your vehicle?

Reducing back pressure on the exhaust and changing the sound shouldn't have to cost nearly $700.

All exhaust systems run better with no back pressure.

Basically, there are those who just have money burning in their pockets. I don't. And, most of us don't.

Tires have to do with performance and safety. Exhaust systems just need to muffle noise and not leak. Totally different comparison.

That is only your perception, I'd like to think... someone driving a Prius is because they don't have money burning in their pockets, if they did they wouldn't care about the Prius MPG gains... separately, if you have no concrete facts to say why it shouldn't cost nearly $700, you are just voicing your opinion and souring the OPs visions of aspiration.

No worries though, versus putting the OP down, I will arrange for his car to be dyno'd before and after this exhaust is installed so we can see with verifiable proof of its pros and cons.

Just making statements based of engineering fact. Not putting the OP down. That's your emotional bruised ego opinion.

For maximum performance, propeller driven aircraft engines never had mufflers on them. They all had direct to air exhaust. Early race cars never used them either.

Machines do not have emotions or feelings. Personification of engines make no sense. Machines are not bothered by noise. They operate at a higher temperature range that would kill a human being.

heh... I've got thick skin as evident by my lack of directing disparaging remarks your way... I don't think the same can be said with reading your words.

But seeing as how we don't drive race cars or fly propeller-driven aircraft engines, those words you wrote are a moot point.

Please explain to me how $700 worth of muffler has any ROE for

someone driving a Prius is because they don't have money burning in their pockets.

Components like this are more about 'look what i have' and nothing else. PT Barnum strikes again, but that's my thought. Please do the dyno. As a matter of fact fly me out to see it. Then explain to me how the 'improvement' is worth $650

Components for looks would be a simple chrome muffler tip you screw onto your stock muffler.

This Ganador muffler though, will increase power by allowing better flow of exhaust.

Very easy and basic to understand.

Maybe the $650 pays for itself through his affiliate link if enough people click on it and buy?

Or rather, it's the age old scenario of two different types of PriusChat members.

In one group you have frugal folk that get way more than a decade out of their car by coming to PriusChat to learn to do DYI repairs and spending hardly any money.

In the other group you people that spend money for pleasure and never own a car for very long before they buy the next one and they come to PriusChat for tips on how to clean a smudge mark on their upholstery because anything beyond that they pay a fortune to get ripped off because they don't do DIY.

And yes, there's some overlap between these two different types, but not by much.

Eliminating back pressure makes the most difference at high RPM so the low RPM claims are more suspect than the high RPM claims...

And a max MPG economy car is not optimized to run at high RPM, but if you wanna drive around like madman up over 4K RPM, then maybe muffler tuning makes sense. But we're talking about Prius here, so...

The muffler might somehow change the factory tuned stoichiometry of the entire system and decrease, not increase, even a minimal power gain and even decrease gas mileage, because it is not matched to the OEM components.

Only an expensive trip to a dyno will reveal the true results.

$650 buys enough gas for years of driving.

That and the fact that a catalytic converter might create more than enough back pressure on its own to negate any lessening of back pressure in the muffler. So measuring the back pressure at end of the exhaust header and after cat is baseline data through which we could determine the benefits of less back pressure in the muffler.

And more to the point, for decades we've talked about how Toyota squeezed every possible MPG benefit they squeeze out of the design and raising MPG higher is very limited. Whereas if it isn't MPG but boosting your speed at the race track then upgrades could help. Of course without access to source code we can't reprogram systems, which is where you'll speed things up at the race track the most.
