I'm driving a 2012 Prius Plug-In. It's undergoing some repairs, but that got me thinking about getting a new Prius (or a Crown).

In Canada for the Prius 2023, it lists the Smart Key Entry feature as included on both the XLE AWD and the Limited AWD packages. (Those are the only two packages available in Canada.)

Does that include both the driver's and passenger's side doors? It doesn't specifiy, but I remember in the old Prius days, there were different options for number of doors. You could get driver's side only or pay extra for both driver's side and passenger's side.

P.S. The thing that annoys me the most about the packages is that the XLE package doesn't include wireless charging, even though it supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Arrggh.

In the US, the LE has one-door(driver's) keyless entry, while the XLE and Limited both have three-door(front doors + rear hatch). Normally I'd be confident in saying the Canadian XLE would be the same as the US XLE, but the US XLE has the wireless charging so apparently there are a few differences.

BTW, you can set the keyless entry on the driver's door to automatically open all doors instead of just the driver's. That makes for a decent compromise if you have a one-door keyless entry vehicle and don't live/work in a bad neighborhood where auto-unlocking all doors could present a safety hazard.

That's good to know. I guess that makes sense since there is no LE available in Canada.

BTW, I went to the US site just now and looked at the specs, and there are actually a fair number of differences vs. the Canadian models. Here are some:

    Heated rear seats:
    - US - Available on Limited
    - Canada - Standard on Limited

    Digital key:
    - US - Available on XLE
    - Canada - Not available on XLE

    12.3" Infotainment screen:
    - US - Available on XLE
    - Canada - Not available on XLE

    Panoramic View:
    - US - Available on Limited
    - Canada - Standard on Limited

    Advanced Park:
    - US - Available on Limited
    - Canada - Standard on Limited

    Wireless Qi charging
    - US - Standard on XLE
    - Canada - Not available on XLE

So it looks like the Canadian XLE represents a low end US XLE with some missing features, and the Canadian Limited is basically the top of the line US Limited. The lack of Qi charging on the Canadian XLE is just lame though. I'm driving a low end rental Kia Forte right now and even that thing has Qi charging.

top of the line here is the XSE Premium and you can get it in Yellow:ROFLMAO:
and the entry level is called SE so yes there is no LE in Canada

No. The XLE is a Prius HEV in both countries. The XSE is the (mostly)equivalent trim Prius Prime PHEV in both countries.

    Prius HEV: LE, XLE, Limited
Prius Prime PHEV: SE, XSE, XSE Premium

Eug appears to be correct in their conclusion about the US vs Canadian trims. The Canadian XLE is (mostly)the American XLE without any of the options. The Canadian Limited is the American Limited with all the available options. The Canadian SE, XSE, and XSE+ are all the max optioned versions of the American ones(with some minor exceptions like heated rear seats on the XSE which are only an option on the American XSE+).

Hey my error ! , i'm in Prius Prime territory , I did not consider Prius hybrid only:(.....a wake up call for the naming conventions each side of the border between the gen 4 and gen 5 , prime and HV

This Gen 5 omnibus needs a separate Prime breakout.

Thought about it but I didn't get a response from Danny and for Gen 5, they have the same design so it's now no different than another car with multiple engine options.

I noticed the specs sent to me regarding the XLE AWD that’s on its way comes with smart key system for “front doors and trunk”. My 2009 fob also opens the rear passenger side door which I use regularly. The 2023 doesn’t have this capability? Has anyone with an XLE checked this out? Maybe because of the new funky back door handles? If so, this is going to be a PITA I’ll have to get used to.

As it stands I need to figure out a way to enter my car without ruining the paint. I wash my hands well but the clear coat has worn off on the handles and hatch area. Probably caused by the clay residue from studio door or my tool bag over the years. The car handle I use the least has crazed paint which is weird. Might have to wear gloves. : ) Auto hatch lift would have come in handy for this.

All you will need to do is run your hand near the front passenger door handle to unlock everything. That's probably what's already happening with your 2009, since I think that's also a "front doors and trunk" system. I'm not absolutely certain about the gen2, but I'm pretty sure the gen3 and gen4 never had keyless sensors in the rear doors.

Passing your hand near the driver's door handle only unlocks the driver's door, but passing your hand near the front passenger door handle unlocks all of them. You can unlock all doors from the driver's door handle by holding it for 2 seconds. You can also reconfigure the car for the driver's door handle to unlock all doors automatically by pressing and holding both the lock and unlock button on the fob for 5 seconds until the car beeps(you have to be inside the car or within 3ft of the car). Two beeps means the driver's door handle unlocks all doors, three beeps means it only unlocks the driver's door(the default).

Opening the rear hatch also unlocks all doors.

And you can always press the unlock button on the fob twice to unlock everything, but I assume you're asking about about automatic unlocking.

correct. smart key only opens driver door (one door sks) or both front doorsand hatch (3 door sks)

you program it to open the back doors with the front. for instance, all my doors unlock when i touch the drivers handle, but i programmed mrs. b's so only the drivers door unlocks when she touches it (for safety reasons)
if she touches the passenger door, all doors unlock, and she can press the rubber switch under the trunk to open it. (hybrid camry)

I wonder if it’s because I have the top level package of the 2009. When I approach my locked driver’s door the smart key only unlocks my door for safety. If all doors are locked and I get up close to my hatch door the smart fob unlocks it. If everything is locked and I get up close to my passenger front door the smart fob unlocks both the front and back passenger doors. All without touching fob. I love this and will really miss this feature that’s for sure.

I didn’t know I could press the fob twice to open all doors. I guess this is what I’ll have to do with the 2023.

    Thank you for spelling out the additional options. I’m tired and might have stated what you’ve already explained. : }
