This is the presentation from Toyota that was the source for the improved EV batteries stories. There was more than the batteries.

"Hiroki Nakajima, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, explained Toyota's technology strategy and the direction of future car manufacturing. In addition, he spoke on specific and diverse technologies, including concepts under development, which will help achieve the vision and policies that have been communicated so far. Also speaking were Takero Kato, who has been appointed president of the newly established BEV Factory, and Mitsumasa Yamagata, who is scheduled to be appointed president of the Hydrogen Factory to be launched in July. They elaborated on their respective strategies for the battery EV and hydrogen businesses."

First, I admire Toyota managers having a dream. In 1990s, Toyota imagination gave us the Prius ... my Thanks!

Unfortunately, I've seen the Toyota sales regions in the USA, particularly Southeast Toyota, and various dealers do everything they can to kill the Prius. I don't see them changing their attitudes about Toyota innovation. Hidebound dealers and regions are parasites to Toyota technical aspirations.

Speculation, Elon might have noticed the dealer intellectual dangers that contributed to selling direct. IMHO, Southeast Toyota would rather go out of business than sell an EV.

Well at least the traditional corporate-style long-term projections/promises/claims that are always not true are finally heading in the right direction... That's one of a thousand things that will have to change if Toyota is still going to exist in 2044.

Meanwhile GM has decided that the path forward means selling a lot more combustion powered Silverados and Suburbans. (Yahoo news link)

    Brown coal.

Seriously, the presentation had a bit about them having a 'reverse' fuel cell for electrolyzing water.

Also, how's that cybertruck coming along?

Dude lucked into a company when it was taking off. He's definitely not a genius. See also: Twitter

    IMHO

    Post Pay-Pal

Some huge pluses: Biggest most successful EV maker by far, made EVs a desired mode for millions and changed plans and product mix of competitors, charging network, SpaceX, energy storage, innovative car manufacturing techniques, stock appreciation

Some to be seen: Tunnel digging, solar panels, electric 18 wheeler, roadster, CT, offshoring in China, stock bubble

Some minuses: Self driving, robo-taxi, Twitter, politics, solar roof shingles, what he is doing to himself
