What are your fuse tap methods for a dash cam?

I just installed a Viofo a139 pro dash cam into my prime. I came across 2 issues that I'd like to address or change. The first being that using the fuse tap method, since the fuse cover under the driver side is flush, the tap does not allow me to cover it back up with the cover. The second issue is that the tap that I used does not like to stay in, so I've held it in with adhesive for now. Could anyone share other methods that you have used to install your accessories? TIA

I got the power for mine from the safety pod up by the mirror on the windshield. I can't remember what its fuse rating was, but it was clearly more than needed for that device so I wasn't worried.

That way I just have a short pigtail that comes out of the safety pod along with the original wiring, makes a u-turn downwards and plugs into my dashcam. It has worked great for a few years now. I did a whole thread about it, you can probably search that out.

    Good luck!

I noticed you mentioned that you would need additional changes to keep it in on/available during parking. Do you happen to know what needs to be done?

Well, you need to add a standby power supply- a battery dedicated to the dashcam. Usually a controller module too, it supervises switching the camera from car power to backup battery, and maintains charge on that battery. Ideally you attach that to the floor or somewhere out of the way so it doesn't overheat, and then run wires from it up to the camera.

That's a significantly more advanced installation, and we didn't need it, so I never went there.

Search for VIOFO dashcam on Amazon. They have a hard wire accessory that you connect to un-switched power and it will monitor the battery voltage and turn off the camera if the battery drops below a selected voltage.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the part together off of Blackbox My Car. I'm just trying to find a better way to fuse tap where I don't have to keep the fuse cover off to do so.

Thanks for the reply. Saw that option too, but not currently the direction I want to go.
