The salesman said if I don’t want the VIN etching I still have to pay for it. Is that even legal? Then…if I don’t want it and he receives payment for the car by July 31st he will pay the VIN etching fee out of his own pocket. He did well this month and must be trying to reach a quota? Is there anything bad about VIN etching? Probably not unless they screw up.

They won’t budge on the $750 trade in offer so I guess I’ll be driving my car for a couple of estimates this week.

You have a nice 09 that you liked everything about it. I see them all over the place. Look better now in style than when new.

Yes…to be honest except for the desire for updated safety features, if I could buy a brand new 2009, I would buy it instead of this 2023. I can’t wait until the transaction is done but not looking forward to new car jitters. Not so worried about learning new tech details. Concerned about keeping it from getting injured in the places I need to park.

Used car prices are starting to come down. Check Vroom and Carvana's offer.

Welcome to my world. I have never been as OCD over a car as I am this one. Washed it today and I can confirm it is still pristine.

Yes! They probably don’t want to deal with it. Plus unfortunately I have to check off accident and Carvana asked for cost of repairs. The program that calculates the figure probably has to assume the worst case. There was no structural damage. The bumpers, key fob antenna, fog lights, left wheel bearing, 12 volt battery and either front (or rear can’t remember which) brakes are new. These things would only matter to a private buyer and maybe a small dealer who sells a lot of used cars. Heck in 2015 I sold my Pontiac Vibe with high miles for $2500…bare tires and front end damage due to a ladder flying into me on the highway. Even though I was upfront about everything I felt very uncomfortable selling it to private buyer. I’m guessing only people who aren’t afraid of the hybrid battery would buy this car.

You may want to consider buying the 2023 without the trade and sell your 2009 yourself.

That’s the plan now. Dealership is not making any money on financing so I’m sure that isn’t helping.

Definitely sell it to an individual. State clearly what is wrong with it. Don't apologize for it when they come to check it out. They know what they're in for. Ask around in the other forum or reddit how you should price it. It will be in the several thousands.

Front visibility is the main reason I traded the Volt. I am older and it matters more than I realized. Gen 4 is not perfect in that either in the front pillars but acceptable. I would think visibility’s a safety feature. What about a CRV hybrid, old guy neighbor likes his a lot, a non hybrid. I would find it difficult to do business with the dealer saying the things they did, and offering no money for the trade. Just extra profit the car is free to them.

Good points. Gen 5 front pillars are a safety issue but hopefully the sensors will help somewhat. Ironically the Corolla Cross Hybrid felt a little claustrophobic due to what felt like a very small windshield. Guess I’m so used to the Prius view. Can’t believe I’m buying a car before it has crash ratings. Hopefully Toyota did their homework.

Says who? I feel right as rain having now driven the car for a month and a half. There absolutely will be an initial shock going from prior gen Prii to the G5. You'll remember how I almost wrote the car off based on first impressions. The older we get, the more difficult it is to adapt. Gotta keep fighting! :coffee:

Yes, the safety sensors on this car are very smart. And the perception of limited view has completely abated for me. I'm tempted to go find a G4 and sit in it just for reminiscence lolz.

❤️ Love this! Do you agree that Toyota probably wouldn’t design a car that would have poor crash rating? I hope so.

    Update:

My Prius is arriving either tonight or tomorrow. Eeek…

VIN etching…bundled with the doc and title fee is against Rhode Island Dealer Commission policy. They are making a lot of money off this scam for now…

Wish me luck tomorrow during my test drive!!

They are still saying the salesman will pay for the VIN etching I’m NOT getting but I insisted they remove it from the purchase agreement.

    1. No to ceramic coating
    2. No to VIN etching
    3. Yes to free synthetic oil changes for the life of ownership of the car IN WRITING.
    4. Miller steel cat shield $359 installed. I know it’s pricey and I can still back out of this. Will not interfere with Toyota Warranty IN WRITING

Are the cats still "stealable" in the G5??

You should record a video of your test drive with questions and comments and post it in here. We'll all offer support or virtual mob violence if the dealership tries to pull shat. :ROFLMAO:

You did well on saying no no no, in writing, in writing. You got the latest and it will last a long time, no luck needed. I didn’t realize you were this close from the final, final moment.

The G5 has zero negatives I know. Thieves run away rather than it be reported it was a Gen 5. The Miller kit is just a dealer scam. Reviewers finding things wrong is a hoax.
