I just got a call from the dealership that my 2023 Prius XLE is ready for me to pick up. In reading a number of posts and watching a goodly number of videos, one recurring criticism is the poor visibility out the rear window. I have searched to no avail for am auto dimming digital rearview mirror for the P{ribs. Every time I think I have found one and fill out the info to see if it would fit, a message pops up that says it won't fit.

Has anyone found a solution (as in an OEM or even a Toyota product that I have yet to find)?

Since it's an option on the Limited (I have it), a kit for the XLE may evntually show up, or someone may be able to hack up a modification for the XLE that uses the components of the Limited one once a version becomes available to repair the original Limited ones.

Thanks for your reply. I kinda figured there was no such thing but wondered (hoped?) Toyota would be coming out with such a part. Can't believe I am the only one interested in this.

If Toyota comes out with a digital rear view mirror for the Prime, I would have to have it installed. I had one in my Venza and after I got used to it, I loved it.

I bought an aftermarket unit that combines digital rearview and front/rear dashcam in a single unit. This one is the Nikomaku AS5 Pro.
I had it in my old Fusion before I bought the prius, and moved it over afterward. It's not perfect; I have a number of minor complaints about it, but I believe it's probably as good as it gets right now without spending several times the price and having to buy the DRVM and dashcam separately. The most troublesome part of any digital rearview system, however, is simply going to be running the wires.

I still haven't installed the hardwire kit to run the power wire for this, and my current wiring run for the rear camera is a bit jank as I haven't yet figured out how to pull the roof panel away from the top without damaging it, so that I can use the S-channel between the roof and hatch.

After test driving XLE I was hoping the digital rearview mirror was an option too. Probably next year when they hear how many people can’t see much in their rearview mirror. Wouldn’t be as bad if headrests weren’t required to be so big. Safety dilemma.

I have a video rear view mirror on my Cdn spec Ltd. It offers a very wide view compared to the standard mirror with no rear seat or window obstructions. It is excellent in tight traffic. Two problesm though. It makes me a little sea sick and the other is I need glasses to see it, wheras a regular mirror is like looking at something in the distance my eyes work normally at. I don't think I will be using it too much, but if you have normal eyes, pretty neat.

There are controls for the Digitial Rear View Mirror, and the USA Owners' Manual attempts to document them. starting at page 145. You can adjust the area displayed and zoom the results to closely match the area covered by the normal mirror. The reason I say that it attempts to document the the controls is that there is an undocumented icon in the icon string that appears when you push the control button.

I wear glasses and find tthat I need to refocus my eyes to get a clear view using the mirror. However, the unfocussed view is good enough for the quick glances that I need while driving.

I think this is mostly what you'd need to do an true OEM conversion. I might easily be missing something. It's almost certainly not worth it.

    Mirror:
$2,349.76 - 87840-0W510 MIRROR ASSY, INNER REAR VIEW, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Cover for the windshield:
$15.69 - 86467-47020 COVER, FORWARD RECOGNITION, NO.2, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Mirror wiring harness:
    $232.85 - 82171-4E600 WIRE, ROOF, NO.1, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

Camera assembly in the rear hatch:
$341.25 - 867C0-30040 CAMERA ASSY, INNER MIRROR, RR, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Actual camera itself:
$236.41 - 86790-47190 CAMERA ASSY, TELEVISION, RR, INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-DIGITAL INNER MIRROR

    Total(MSRP): $3,175.96

    Something way better might be:
    https://www.voxxelectronics.com/gentex/full-display-rear-view/?sku=GENFDM3LN

$900 and very, very close to the Prius version(same manufacturer). Primary differences are no Homelink buttons and having to mount the included camera to the rear window somewhere.

If you happen to have any resources for how to actually access that grommet without damaging the ceiling liner in the process, I'm all ears lol

you remove the two plastic pins holding up the roof and then pull away the plastic trim. Down gentle will come the roof. The grommet itself has a few taps that plug into the car, I pull the rubber off the white plastic collar, disengage the collar with the tabs, run the wire, pull the rubber back onto the collar and plug it back in. Not really a beginner job but it is the same setup as the gen 4 prius. For the front end of the car, I ran the wire up in the headliner across the front windshield, then actually ran it all the way to the back following the passenger side headliner. While hard to describe I basically installed the VIOFO 2 channel dash cam totally hidden running one wire from the front to the back and another wire around the windshield, down behind the a-pillar, through the panel on the outside of the glove box, behind the actual glove box and then wrapped around to the USBCs. These cars basically all pull apart by hand but it does take a little practice and examining to figure out what to do

It is really hard to describe and show- here is the end outcome to at least demonstrate it is possible

That Nikomaku might be good enough for the job. We need one for the incoming S10 project as the cheapo from ebay is a trash. The new tires and ion wheels are getting installed this week and we'll work on the interior mods next.
