Even better: those are fried bread (English Muffins).

just looking lol: that’s the first side fried, the crease on each is from lifting off a cookie sheet onto the griddle. More subtle: the dimples on the opposite side are from my fingers.

We don't have Costco in our state... I think there will be one grand opening later this year, but that will be a ~6 hours drive for us. We do go to Sam's Club. But being 2+ hours away, we make the trip only every couple of months. When we do go there, we buy "bulk". We have done it with our PP, but could not shop everything we wanted to buy, like 2 cases of paper towels, and 3 cases of toilet paper. Escape works better for this. LOL

Popover is our staple breakfast "bread", although afternoon tea and popovers are popular favorite activities here.

Ah, I used to make Yorkshire pudding, very similar I think; relies on beaten egg white alone for leavening.

reaching new heights of off-topic lol.

I could move this to Fred's House of Pancakes, but, then we can only discuss Pancakes. No English Muffins, Popovers, or Yorkshire puddings. LOL

From what I have read, Maine's Popover was re-invented by the early settler from England taking after the Yorkshire pudding recipes. But I don't exactly know what differentiates the two. Not having had an authentic Yorkshire pudding myself, I don't even know if they taste any different.

    OK... I found this

Is Yorkshire pudding same as popovers?

    Yorkshire Pudding vs Popovers

The only difference between popovers and Yorkshire puddings is that Yorkshire Pudding uses beef fat (the drippings from the roast). These popovers are a little lighter in flavor and you can also prepare them ahead of time.

Yeah, that would be my dream come true. Live self-sufficiently, totally off grid in a log cabin in the woods. But, it is an illusive dream, indeed.
