Phone app give different battery level

    PP 2023

    While the phone app report the exact mileage or km and the exact location of the car. The app report a very different battery level. The apps says 74% battery level while the actual car say 53%

    Any known reason ?

    iirc, there's a thread here somewhere, and the car is messed up. the app is correct

    Quite the opposite. The app is insane, and the car has correct, useful information.

    As an owner/driver we do not care about any non-useful battery percentage. If the useful battery capacity has some non-useful percentage below, or above and below, reporting percentage of the theoretical whole battery is going to confuse and confound owners. (The EV driving capacity during HV Mode power is useful to the car to maximize HV Mode efficiency, but all information about it is useless to the driver.)

    The car properly reports EV Mode consumable capacity as SOC (state of charge). The app should be reporting the car’s EV mode consumable capacity to be useful to the user.

    Batteries are not simple containers that we “pour” energy in and measure a linear physical quantity to see how much energy is in the container like we can for the gasoline consumable, so the car provides an estimate of the useful EV mode capacity or an estimated EV mode range.

    The current app is reporting something totally bogus (not even a reasonable total battery percentage).

    The car turns the non-linear physically measurable battery parameters into a useful (reasonably) linear quantity called SOC. Drawing SOC down from 100 to 90% at 4.3 mi/kWh will give the driver roughly the same distance traveled as drawing SOC down from 10% to ----% zero. It appears the power associated with the SOC measurement is 10.6 kWh.

    Here also the app is reporting bogus information. When I draw the SOC down to 50%, I have to charge 50% of the usable EV mode capacity which is ( 0.5 * 10.6 ) 5.3 kWh. The app will report the car was at 70% at the start, and will report the charge as (0.3 * 10.3 kWh) 3.1 kWh which is totally bogus.

    Update: I finally managed to report the app's incorrect reporting of 2023 Prius Prime values just now. We'll see where it goes.

    The app is completely wrong about everything with the charge. About the only thing that's accurate is the amount of time to charge.

    Where'd you report it? I'd gladly kick in. Particularly if a year from now I'm paying for this thing so I can remote start the heat in the winter.

    I was finally successful in reporting it here by selecting "Multimedia Technology", and then "Toyota App".
    I entered "iPhone" for Phone Model, and "2.1.9 (11) prod" for Phone Software Version.
    (To find Phone Software Version: Click Vehicle, Click user icon upper right, Click Account, scroll to bottom of page to view version info)

    I'm not satisfied with their response but I don't have the strength to fight them to understand:

    I did as they requested, but the app charge remaining still does not match the displayed SOC, not even "closer to each other" in my opinion ... (initially displayed "93% Charged" when car displayed SOC was 70%, then after "waiting two to five minutes" in above 90 degree temp with no AC, the refresh action dropped the app value to "83% Charged" where it remains after having the car off over 12 hours.)

    I just got a reply that acknowledges something, though I'm quite skeptical that it has anything to do with AC interference.

    Thank you for contacting us. We understand your frustration with the displayed battery charge for your 2023 Toyota Prius Prime.

    After researching, we verified that due to AC interference in your 2023 Prius, there is discrepancy where the displayed charge on the Toyota app may be different than on multiple screens in your Prius.

    This concern will be addressed in a future app update. We apologize, we do not have an ETA at this time.

    I received the same "AC interference" BS last night when I pressed them on their prior "turn off the AC and it will be closer" response, and they still did not even touch the totally bogus application's "charged power" value.

    Right, the AC interference makes the app report a very regular wrong value rather than just reading the car's last reported SOC.
