Unique door lock situation. Not an actuator problem

car has 60k miles. A while ago the fob stopped working, new battery, still not working. Try spare fob which has never been used, new battery, also not working. Go to Auto Zone to check if they are transmitting a signal, both are not transmitting. Coincidence that 2 fobs are not working? So I posted here and no one had an answer. I started unlocking the door with the manual key and before getting out of the car I would lock it using the button on the interior door handle. Now what started happening is that when locking it using the interior button it will lock all the doors (so actuators are working) and then immediately unlock again, sometimes needing to try several times before it stays locked. I tried it from the passenger side too and it did the same thing. This happens about 80% of the time. I am concerned with all the extra wear and tear on the actuators. So 2 problems going on here that seem to be separate from each other. I would really appreciate any insights to what might be going on. Thanks

The re-unlock-after-locking behavior is something the car does if not every door made it fully to locked. Sometimes one actuator gets a little worn out and when all the doors are told to lock, that one will move most of the way, but not all the way to make the switch that confirms it locked.

When that happens, the car unlocks them all again, so you know something's up.

There may be other reasons for that behavior that I don't know about, but that's the one I know about.

O.K. that makes sense, so one or more of the actuators are not working properly. Thanks for the help, I will check them.

The other thing to consider is that some type of activity, or perhaps way you carry your fobs has damaged both of them in the same way and the buttons once depressed keeps sending a signal, which not only drains down the Fob batteries, but also creates that lock-unlock signal issue. Do you got a dog that chews on your fobs or a kid that plays with them too much?

Hi , Thanks for chiming in. No kids or dogs and the back up fob has been in a drawer in it's original plastic bag since the car was purchased new in 2016. I wish I could figure this one out. What could cause a fob to loose it's programming? The lock / unlock issue is only happening with the switch on the interior door panel.

Try disconnecting the 12v battery for a few minutes... It's the equivalent of turning off your personal computer and rebooting it, which resolves most anomalous glitches.
