Hi all! Total newbie here. I adopted a 2014 prius plug in hybrid. I would like to update the firmware if possible. I have downloaded entune and it is useless. Is there somewhere I can download an update? Is it possible to add Spotify to my prius?

    congrats and welcome!
i don't think so. you can contact a dealer about possible updates, and maybe there is info at toyota.com/owners, where you can input your vin and see maintenance history, recalls, updates, tsb,s and etc.
    how many miles on her?

If you’re looking for apps like spotify, your best bet is to just install an aftermarket android radio.

More on EGR cleaning in first two links in my signature. If you’re on a phone, turn it landscape to see signature.

It’s a little nuts, but regardless of question 3rd gen Prius owners are asking, it’s become opportune time to warn them of the probable demise of their 3rd generation engine, due to it’s Achilles heel. It’s somewhat akin to “Oh by the way, have you had a shingles vaccine?”

3rd gen Prius introduced a new Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, which has proven very prone to clog up with carbon, very “reliably”, somewhere between 100k and 150k, and just as reliably the engine head gaskets are failing (disastrous and expensive).

Toyota has pretty much turned into the 3 uncommunicative monkeys on the subject. Also, there’s much debate here regarding the correlation between EGR clogging and head gasket failure.

Anyway, warring camps aside :ROFLMAO::cry: my 2 cents: look into it. And if possible avoid dealerships; they’re a hopeless/expensive rabbit hole on the subject. Often, and sadly, DIY is the shortest distance between two points.

Depending on your location there may be professional options. Tampa Hybrids in Florida, and Hybrid Pit Stop (LA) are two options known here. Which is pretty dismal I know. There may be some local-to-you PriusChat member that can help too.

70k is pretty much ideal time to get on this, btw.

Also, if a fair percentage of your miles are electric-only (with the plug-in), it may forestall the EGR clogging. That said, @bisco’s scenario is just that, his miles are modestly more (90k~?), he’s getting engine running rough symptoms, and is currently trading it in AFAIK.

Yikes!!! I'm not at all impressed by my local dealership so they're not touching my car. But that aside, thank you for your warning on the egr system. I'm right in the middle of those! Hahaha Kansas! I am going to get on it now, because I know 100k will come up real fast if I don't! There aren't a lot of hybrids in my state that I'm aware of. Haha I've been looking since I thought of getting the prius. It was hard to find one here. We mostly have trucks. Thank you for the heads up. I've been researching like crazy and no one had mentioned this.
