Does the LE display maps/directions from your phone on the screen?

One issue I have with my current prius (2017) is that when I use Google maps, apple maps, waze etc, the directions and map only display on the phone screen, and I look down a lot at the phone to figure out where to go. Since the new prius (including the LE) has the screen elevated closer to the windshield, I figure it would be great if the directions could somehow be transmitted from the phone to the screen.

Does this happen in the LE trim? Is that basically how Carplay works? Will it work with all the maps apps or just a select few? Or none?

My 2021 Prime LE will only project what's compatible with android auto. Waze and google maps will move to the main screen, via the USB wired port (those are compatible with android auto).

My understanding; on the new head unit (gen 5) will operate wirelessly. Since auto manufacturers won't guarantee connectivity; you'll just need to attach your device on the test drive - to test functionality.

    Hope this helps.....

On the android side of things, wired and wireless display identically. I started by using wireless, but I've mostly switched to wired. Wireless is a bit flaky for me on the connecting side of things. I can always get it to eventually connect by using the bluetooth devices settings on the car and reconnecting or turning my phone's bluetooth off and on again, but it's a hassle. (The problem typically happens if I remote start the car or get out of the car and take the phone with me while the car's running.)

Also, a couple of the apps I run on android auto really heat up my phone, so when I use those apps while trying to wirelessly charge the phone it's guaranteed to overheat and shut down. It's not the charging on its own that causing it to overheat, but the combination of the charging, the app running at full processor load, and the confined charging space all combined.

I have this same issue with my Fold 3. It connects wirelessly about 60~70% of the time, and the rest of the time I have to manually tell it to reconnect.

The wireless charging on mine is even more flaky, though. Works maybe 30% of the time at best. The rest of the time, it will just blink the amber LED repeatedly. Pretty frustrating when this was a feature I considered a perk. I don't have overheating issues with mine when it does charge, at least.

In my 2023 LE, turn by turn instructions from both Waze and Google Maps show up on the Multi-information display. I hope this answers your question. PXL_20230901_215526402.jpg

Weird.. my XSE doesn't do that. Do you have Drive Connect? Or are you just using Android Auto?

Interesting, is there a way to make it display more map and less speed etc?

With an apple phone in carplay mode the 2023 prius should (optionally) show the map on the center screen, with the "next instruction" repeated to the multi-information display in front of the steering wheel.

Ah good thatsbwhat i need for max safety. Im always looking down at my phone screen trying to see where i am on the map and when hwt the next turn will look like

Is this display mode standard across trims, incl LE?

i know the xle has a bigger screen, but will it essentially display the same info, just bigger on the XLE?

Sorry, I don't have details about the differences between trims.

Every 2022 and 2023 Toyota I've been in (I rent a lot) does it more or less the same way- center screen gets the Apple carplay interface where you'd see the map, and the panel in front of the driver shows a duplicate copy of the next navigation cue like the photo on post 5.

I previously used Google Maps via Apple CarPlay in my 2023 Prime SE (with an iPhone 14 Pro Max) and it would only display on the 8" screen. A few weeks ago I randomly was using Apple Maps via CarPlay and it displayed directions in the MID in addition to the info displayed on the 8" screen. I'm guessing Apple CarPlay works better with Apple Maps, therefore enabling the directions in the MID. If that were the case, perhaps using Google Maps with Android Auto would enable the directions to show up in the MID as well?

I do not have Drive Connect. No free trial on LE and I do not pay for it. I am using Android Auto.

I cannot change the way it looks on the Multi-information display.

It is standard on the LE. I assume it is standard on all trims. I believe all Multi-information display screens are the same size regardless of trim. I do have the smaller Multimedia display (8") but the turn by turn directions also show up on the Multi-information display regardless of what my Multimedia display is showing.

What apps seem to cause this problem?

Specifically CarStream, which allows the phone to stream YouTube videos to the main screen. It's also possible there were some other apps working in the background that were contributing(I'm really bad at closing old apps).

Thanks. Good information. They let you stream videos while you are driving? Dang.

Not officially. I believe newer versions of android even block this app (and all 'unauthorized' apps) from running on android auto by default, even.
