Codes after head gasket replacement 2012 Prius V

    Good morning ALL, 2012 Prius V 133,000
    Just had a repair shop replace my head gasket. After the gasket was replaced, I got a call from the shop that "all good with gasket and engine, but now you have a bad hybrid battery" Codes P0AFC, P0B42, P0B47, P0AFC. These codes were not there before the gasket was replaced so I am wondering if maybe they forgot to connect something? They say they did not touch anything related to the hybrid battery, and that could be true, but I really don't know for sure. They have offered to replace the hybrid battery for an additional $4500. I opted to pick up the car and chew on it. The car starts and drives great, but will not drive on hybrid mode, only gas engine. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I retrieved the codes my self with DrPrius app and also saw that 14 sections in green at 15.30 and 15.45 average, but # 2 at 0.00 and # 3 in red at 24.97. Just replaced 12v battery only days before I took to shop for gasket replace.

    your first and fourth codes are the same, is there another?

    i would never go back to that shop, i hope they didn't mess up the head gasket replacement.

    those codes usually mean corrosion inside the battery case. if you're up for it, pull the cover off and have a look around.

    The car has to use hybrid mode in order to start the engine and for the transaxle to function. However the engine running continuously means the hv battery is not charging well and is staying at a very low state of charge.

    Many of us do not like the refurb, used or repainted hv battery options unless you intend to simply flip the car to an unsuspecting buyer.

    There are several ways to get a new set of battery modules installed for half the dealer price. When my 2012 v had a similar failure, a mobile service installed new Toyota cells with a three year warranty for $2250. You can see where I am. We can’t recommend anyone since you don’t wish to share your location.

    Thanks for your reply. I plan on keeping the car so if the battery has to be replaced, I'd like it to be of good quality.

    I am not sure where in the Raleigh NC area you can find an independent Toyota battery installer but beware of refurb and “new” cylindrical module suppliers.

    However if you need quality ac and heat work, this guy is superior. Seriously. https://callsmarthomenc.com/

    $4500............. what a rip off.....................To anyone reading this Do Not Purchase a Gen 3!
    Unless you like Big Mental and Financial Pain and possibly be broke down for weeks multiple times.
