At least around here: very few (if any dealerships) even do bodywork, and if they do, it would be some sort of off-site affiliated bodyshop. And the bodyshops usually don't do their own glasswork, will either get a sub-contractor in, or drive (or tow, as needed) the car to a glass specialty place.

That price is very low. Your car may not have a head-up display, but—like all 2018 Prius cars built for sale in the U.S.—it has Toyota Safety Sense-P, which includes the forward recognition camera that looks through the windshield, used for the pre-collision system, lane departure warning, and cruise control, among other features. You need a windshield that’s compatible with the camera, and there is a recalibration procedure (see previous posting) that needs to be done after the new windshield is installed.

just became aware of this issue. are there any newer updates or solutions to this problem? it does seem to be defectively weak glass in certain early years of the gen4 - based on reading some example, where heat or cold or braking or cornering abruptly causes the glass to crack. did the lawsuit settle with positive results? did Toyota technically fix the problem, with, for example, thicker glass or some better solution? Why are the 2019+ Gen4's not so prone to this problem? Are there non-OEM glass that are stronger and better than the factory installed glass? it seems like a low deductible insurance policy wont carry you every year for a new genuine Toyota windshield, without starting to raise your policy premiums. thx in advance. much appreciate this groups insight!

Your info states you have a Gen 3. Why are you concerned about this?

Thank you for trying to keep on the correct path. :)
In any case, I'm evaluating Gen4 for purchase now.

Do you have any info regarding the pre-facelift Gen4 versus the newer ones that would indicate windshield changed?

I’m not positive but I think 2016’s were the only ones with the thinner windshields. But after the facelift the problem was fixed. Personally I would only really recommend the last two years of the Gen 4 (‘21 & ‘22).
