My silver-logo SKS case is getting worn out. I would like to buy a replacement case and transfer the electronics into that.

On Amazon/eBay it seems that the only empty cases for sale are of the all-black variety.

The silver-logo ones there have electronics in them that I know cannot be reprogrammed even by locksmiths, and cost $80 to $100.

So the question is: can I transfer the chips, etc., into an all-black shell and retain all the same functionality, including inserting the key in the ignition slot?

    Thank you!

No that's not exactly correct. When you get around to it you're going to order the black button assembly case that you want I pay like a $12 for two your SKS back will fit on the case that you're ordering because the case that you're ordering is a duplicate of the factory case without a logo on the back plastic piece your key will also fit in this remote perfectly. So you're going to use your SKS logo back should you want to and your metal key is going to go in the new remote or fob. Now you have to realize you're going to need something like a Dremel with a small cut off wheel to go around the seam of the two halves of the remote after you remove the back remove the screws remove the battery remove the metal key which is already done now take your Dremel and go around the seam of the case halves carefully You want to get it so that you can split it when you split it there's two parts you need to get out of the fog the green board duh. And below it is the transponder chip it sits in a little trapezoidal shaped space at what I would call the bottom of the remote Do not throw the old remote out until you have retrieved this and put it in the new case Make certain of it this is what does your SKS functions the green board amplifies that transponder code so that as you walk up to the car it can unlock the door for you if you forget this piece and throw it away you are quite screwed Good luck Don't fall for the bling cases just get a regular black case that looks just like the picture of what you have now without the damage touchpad.

Absolutely. The new cases are about 7 or 8 bucks and are exactly that, an empty new case. Transfer all the internals including the RFID chip to the new case. The old backing plate with the silver logo can be installed onto the new case, since the black one and silver logo one are identical in every way except the logo.

Yes you can transfer everything into the new case.

I'm suprised Toyota hasn't made a very strong key fob standard out metal as the plastic ones break over time.

It would not work in metal. You would need glass or plastic for the low power proximity rf to work.

I have never had one break in over twenty years I have used a fob.

I've broken the original and the replacement. But granted the original lasted a long time.

When people say broken they usually mean they've worn the button rubber off I've never seen a plastic case deformed or broken even stepped on thrown across a shop at full tilt You name it I've seen the back missing the slide on I've seen the metal key missing but I've never seen the Sonic welded generation 2 remote halved unless it was done with a tool to take it apart to put the works into a new case so somebody's pretty heavy duty and pretty stout with their remote if they are literally getting the parts to fall out hell I have to get a tool with a wheel that spins at 5,000 RPMs to get the remote to come to pieces are you kidding me You guys are just doing it by sitting on it stepping on it throwing it across the shop No way.

AND.....if you want to be SURE that it all fits and works right, visit a locksmith or two who can put a new case
on for you and you won't have to guess whether or not the one you order from Amazon or Ebay will actually fit
    and work correctly.
    :)
