I have a 2015 Prius II and I’m getting about 35 miles per gallon. The engine seems to be perfectly fine. Not burning any oil, not losing any oil. Had transmission fluid flushed about 5000 miles ago. Dr. Prius app initially clocked the battery at 55% when I bought the car, and I’m trying to save for the lithium upgrade. In the meantime, I can’t afford it. For now I’m stuck with the original NIMH battery, and after driving around Los Angeles for about two months, the Dr. Prius app now registers the battery at 65%. I guess it was just sitting for a while before I bought it. Anyway, temperature is getting pretty high around 120°, and the blade voltage is sticking around 9.1 when I am using regenerative braking, or force charging. Anything I can do to improve the life of this battery? I’m getting around 35 miles per gallon on an average day, but I can squeeze 45 mpg on a great day.

what's the mileage on your car? The battery has a warranty of 10 years or 150k miles

well you should pray that it will fail within the 9 thousand miles that you have left on your warranty, then you'll get a brand new one for free. So if I were you, I wouldn't do anything to prolong the battery life, until it runs out of warranty

Well, I’m an Uber driver, so I have to keep on going. And I bet my extensive driving will continuously keep it as healthy as it will be. So I guess I’m out of luck in that regard.

if you're getting 35mpg, you either have issues with the 12v battery or the hv battery. driving for uber does not mean your battery won't fail

I had a hunch that I might just have a bad 12 V battery, but I get a lot of mixed readings online. A lot of people say that a bad 12 V battery would not cause bad gas mileage, and others people say it absolutely would.

A bad 12v battery will most definitely cause bad gas mileage. But that's easy enough to test, most auto parts places will test your battery for free

Well if it’s a bad 12v then I will have to wait another month or so anyway. It’s already 8 days into September & I’m $1100 short for September rent

I don’t dispute that you may be right about this. But can you point to anything which corroborates this? Or possibly explain your reasoning for this assertion?

You can use the search function on this site to search endless threads talking about this issue. Basically the car will keep charging that 12v battery and using up valuable energy that the car would normally conserve. Wasting energy equals less mpg

Also, I’m pretty sure I’m using the original spark plugs

I have accidentally drained our 12 V, for example leaving the headlight in Auto and doing some sort of opening the door combination with accessory mode/ON but not ready. Upon start up the HV battery level will drop very/unusually rapidly…

Well the 3rd gen prius from 2010-2015 does not have a good reputation for reliability after 150k miles. So if you want it to last, you would need to read up and do some needed maintenance items. If this is your uber car, you won't want it to break down and leave you with a $2000 repair bill.

Just by the conversation that's going on here The rent issues and everything else going on LA living I think is what I read here so on and so forth I would be looking into getting a Corolla I understand there's money issues and all that but if you're going to stick to living in your car to work I have a other half that thinks she's making a bunch of money doing this she used to make $80,000 at a home Depot store now she makes I don't even know 25,000 a year driving for Uber and Uber eats and all these people that are robbing or blind because you know she wants to live in her car I guess and I don't understand this kind of logic but it doesn't generally work out so well I could do this exact thing you're doing in my Corolla for 15 years without doing anything in a Prius that would be a different problem every week It seems like and looks like you're getting to that point at the $140,000 mi in your generation 3 You are heading into head gasket battery replacement all expensive repairs and unless you're making a bunch of money driving for these people I doubt it will be a fruitful endeavor like I say in a Corolla that just puts you in the correct year model for your job like my girl has to have a 2010 or newer car she has a 2010 Prius so you'd have to have a 2010 or newer Corolla and then in that case since of that I would probably go for the Yaris it's a little bit better maintenance than the Corolla actually is when you get up to the 2010. The Corolla and the Prius use the same 2 Z engine. And slightly different configurations. So you may want to revamp how you're doing this work and what you're doing it in if you want to keep doing it.

Probably conterfit plugs, and coils... For that price.
You shouldn't waste your money on junk parts.

There is nothing wrong with your coils right? Don't replace quality parts with cheap parts. I would get a nice original set of Denso/NGK plugs and that's about it. No need for coils

I would ONLY BUY new spark plugs from a Toyota Dealership. Your coils should be fine. Check your air filter, and clean your hybrid battery fan. Videos on youtoob.
