Anyone know on how to check if TPMS is working and communicating on Prime? I did went ahead with Defender T&H (they dont make Defender 2 yet in 195/65/R15) which been discontunued in many sizes. I do feel the tires seems to be weighted more thus giving less MPG however it is smoother than my OEM nano tires, I like it. Fortunately I work from home, so that 25-30 miles of EV distance is mostly enough. Also, for those who were in the same boat as me...check your tires preasure after getting it installed. The tire shop doesnt fill the air correctly, they all different (took them roughly 30-40 minutes to do the swap and I'm like the 4th custome ron the line) so I top it off for 40psi on the front and 42psi on the back. Personally I go with the Toyota recommended front tire pressure all 'round, but when you're raising pressures maybe make the rear pressures the same or a couple of pounds less than the front. I believe Toyota recommendation is 35/33 F/R. Having the rear pressures higher than front might make it skittish when cornering.
AND might contribute to premature loss of traction during a hard stop. Having your cold pressures set more than +2 from the recommendation is hard on the suspension components too........and it gains you virtually nothing in gas mileage.
Heavier tires take more energy to get them rotating and more brake effort to stop them from rotating. Extra weight in the tire casing may make the tire more durable over potholes, etc., and get a smaller puncture hole. My original Toyos got a surprisingly large hole from an ordinary screw picked up on the road, and they had a really thin, light casing.
