I'm wondering where my battery will go from here. 180k miles, 2015 prius 3. Ran Dr.Prius for the first time a couple of days ago, got back 80%.

How many years would I have left, I'm wondering. Will probably go with the cylindrical batteries Chrisfix used on his youtube channel.

Oringinal battery, 2010... If you use the Prolong system the battery will likely last a very long time.

Well you're a 63-year-old male from Florida depending upon where you live in Florida there will be other things that will probably help you into another car that actually have not much to do with the car that Prius could carry you till you're about 72 unless somebody slams into it and ruins it. By the time you get to needing a battery they'll be a whole lot more choices than cyinderellical cylinders.

If the car is driven daily literally I've seen cars go 445,000 mi with the original battery and still it wasn't falling on its face The car was still driving very nicely at this 445K on the original Toyota HV battery which had no care during its life other than the car being driven The car had had some maintenance and work done to the car but not to the battery or not to the HV system so a belt on the water pump maybe the water pump replaced a few 12 volts several sets of tires so on and so forth convenience items.

The OEM modules each have an internal manifold connecting the 6 cells and leading to a vent on top, and those vents again connect to one of two external manifolds that vent to the outside of the car in some of the earlier 2010s or to the spare tire well in later Gen 3s.

Something to think about with the cylindrical packs: 4 cells are welded together in series (4.8 V) and encased in heat shrink tubing, and 3 of those are then stacked together and connected in series to form a single 14.4 V module, but there is no pressure relief within the shrink-wrapped 4.8 V pack.

If any water or electrolyte is expelled from the cells, it stays within the shrink wrap and in contact with the cell terminals leading to corrosion, or, with enough overpressure, ruptures the shrink wrap and rains down upon the other cells or battery casing.

with the miles you're driving, i would expect a very slow decline. maybe 5-10 years, all things being equal.
no way to pin it down.

Of course, I'd like to be practical about replacing the battery. Hoping there are more alternatives, but for around $2k, if the service life turns out to be 13 years, that's pretty reasonable any way you cut it. I'm mindful not to run the battery down by parking with the AC on for extended periods. I do baby this car.

Ice kicks on once the battery is near 40% soc and stops around 50%.

Generally it seems 10 years is a good run for a Toyota with Panasonic modules in it from Toyota new unless you can buy direct from Panasonic. Stretching it to 13 and 15 is generally not the norm usually you're looking for the battery to fall on its face within the 10-year period some of them before that so don't think you're just going to run to 13 years more like 10 is the norm like I said 13 was stretching it and it 13 mine was falling on its face and I was essentially driving a Corolla full-time one NZ ice engine running until the battery was replaced so that might as well have been no battery essentially but at least the car was running I wouldn't run to this point again when this started happening and you don't have to spend $2,000 I just had a guy come out here that did a battery up for me and he doesn't for a living I think it was 750 and it looks like it'll probably go two three four years possibly longer apparently it's new bus bars and nuts etc this is done in North Carolina by a guy up in the Greensboro area I think he says he can run through 60 modules at one time so that's pretty decent setup.

There are some things worth replacing “proactively”, say engine coolant pumps, which have been proven failure prone, around 150k miles.

But the hybrid battery? Just run it till it fails, and it should give plenty of warning.

I never said I was buying a battery at this time. Just looking ahead. I'll be driving this car until electric cars kill ice engines.

If you get the Prolong system and use it, you'll keep the battery stable longer.

We need to tell this to all the people who says replace 12v battery after every 5 years. Mine is 7 years old by the way.

Sooner than most people think. Toyota is doing some incredible things in the next 5 years. ICE won't die that quickly, but it will have gone the way of the wagon wheel in 10 years. I'm not entirely happy about that.

I'm thinking I have one more battery replacement in the life of my car, assuming I go 3 or 4 more years. Not sure if the Prolong would be worth it at this point. Would you attempt to replace individual cells and rebuild your battery?

No wack a mole for me. Not worth the time and effort.
I would replace with NEW cells/packs whatever you want to call them.

The Prolong system has worked for me. In November this year it will be 14 years old.
I do mostly highway driving, very little city driving.
