    Hello Everyone,
I just got my 2023 LE yesterday, yay! When I drove it home and turned into my very narrow driveway to the back lot of my building, the sensor went off and stopped the car halfway pass the automatic gate. I panicked because the parking gate started to close again with the car not budging. I was able to press the remote to the gate again and pressed a few buttons to get the car to move (I don’t know what I did??). The driveway is very narrow because I live in a densely populated city so it’s a tight squeeze. Am I looking to disable the PA/AB or the PCS system to get in and out my lot? I can’t seem to tell from the manual what was the trigger. Thanks in advance.

Lol... So your car thinks it's so smart it won't let you drive it the last 20 feet home? This can sometimes be a problem when you adopt a new pet, but usually not cars.

If I were you I'd take it back and get your money back... As for quick and easy advice on how to let your car knows who in charge, that what your owner's manual is for. Of course most of us aren't allowed to read it and often for reasons we don't quite understand. Maybe you're the same?

Most of us on here own old Prius and this new feature that won't let you drive your car is a good example of how Toyota keeps innovating in the wrong direction.

It sounds like either the Pre-Collision System or the Proactive Driving Assist. I highly suggest reading about those systems in your manual to see which might be getting triggered. Each of them respond differently, so you should be able to figure it out.

For example, one of them is designed to prevent acceleration into a wall that sometimes happens when a driver(often elderly) accidentally puts their foot on the gas instead of the brake. Then when the vehicle starts to drive forward into an obstruction, they press down hard thinking they're pressing the brake. If the system senses an obstruction ahead plus a hard acceleration, it will reduce power and apply the brakes. If you tend to accelerate strongly once your gate is open, especially if you have to press the gas hard because you're driving uphill at the same time, I could see the system getting confused. To solve that issue, you could either turn off the system or learn to accelerate at a more moderate level that doesn't trigger the system and still lets you get through your gate safely.

Another system will fully stop the car if it detects an obstruction(that it thinks is a person/vehicle crossing in front of you), but only if you're traveling above approx. 9mph. Again, you might be able to avoid the brakes being triggered by keeping your speed low until you're clear of the narrowest part.

Worst-case scenario, either/both systems can be disabled from your MFD(the one above the steering wheel). Do some trial and error tests to see exactly what is causing the issue.

That is actually a very good reason to not disable the parking sensors. It is very expensive and time-consuming to repair damaged bumpers etc.

I would adjust the timer on the gate if I were you.
