Is it worth it to do reccomened maintenance?

    I am currently using a 2012 prius V with a little over 100k miles

    A week ago I had a multi point inspection done
    for a routine maintenance

    A day before my wofe and I noticed some weird sounds when turning at slow speeds

    i asked the dealership if i can watch while hey are repairing and suggested that ive heard stories of tampering

    They said no.Then did inspection

    I then left and stayed in the car for a few days often idling

    Yesterday morning car wouldn't start when I woke up outside a walmart lot

    Someone at Walmart automotive Jumpstart the small battery

    I drove to the dealership they said battery is ok
    but

    1)Rearshock needs to be replaced.690 bucks
    [They did show me a picture on the rear shock on their computer showing a leak]

    Plus.Mandatory Alignment after replacement 150 bucks

    2)Battery cooling fan[cleaning] 240 bucks
    They say this is for preventive maintenance to keep battery from overheating

    Transmission fluid replacement 250

    My wife and I are getting ready to head to Florida from AZ And I asked what's most necessary

    I also mentioned that the salesman who bought this told my wife and I that they will give us a 10-20% employee discount for getting service done at the dealer

    He said only for employees but will ask if the guy who sold it will ask the manager

    We have an appt tomorrow morning at 8 to meet with the dealer to do rear shock plus alignment and cooling fan?

    It seems neither Walmart or the dealer determined why the 12v died. Maybe you left a light on?

    What happened to the noise complaint?

    Leaving a Prius running in Ready overnight or anytime is not good for the engine or the hybrid battery. Especially in a hot environment. Could ruin the engine or hybrid battery.

    If there have been no check engine or hybrid warning lights I would stop going to the dealer AND Walmart. All the dealer’s listed things are useful but unlikely to be needed today without codes or warning lights.

    When asking for advice, do yourself a favor and include your exact location. You might get a recommended shop like Tampa Hybrids to do a better evaluation rather than relying on a dealer’s questionable laundry list.

    Vehicle purchased at Camelback Toyota

    Getting ready to travel cross country to the south

    Perhaps Ga,Al,FL

    It's possible I forgot to.turn power off that night I spent in walmart lot

    Being houseless.I do idle alot

    About mid 90s in phx

    So essentially no need to repair leaky rear shock and do the other repairs?

    Just bought the car cash about 3 months ago

    Perhaps a trade in the future

    Grateful to just be alive at the moment as I have had some close calls with death with indoor mold exposure

    My wife and I are both on disability and her lease will be up Oct 1 as well as public housing assistance

    I can camp in the car but my wife needs a place as we're both Mold sensitive

    I'm not sure

    I need a vehicle at the moment as I'm houseless and unable to tolerate housing for any commited period at the moment with mold hypersensitivity

    They said they found nothing with noise complaint

    I do idle a bit with Ac on as it's hot in phx amd for
    the moment this is my home

    I think you are heading to the wrong coast for your needs. You will not like the east or gulf coasts as a homeless person with health issues.

    That alone is larceny. A fair price for Prius transaxle fluid change would be $90~100 USD; it’s no more complicated than an oil change.

    when you get to florida, i would tackle the cooling fan inspection/cleaning, but your bigger issue is cleaning the egr circuit.
    if you can't find someone to tackle the cooling fan for a hundred, you really ought to try it yourself, it's fairly easy.
    although shocks can have an affect on tire wear, if your tires are wearing fine, i would ignore it unles you feel like spending the money.
