I am looking everywhere but my own state because not many people are selling their Prii.
So with that being said, I'm looking in nearby states. I have come across more scammers on Marketplace and Kelly Blue Book and it literally makes me depressed to the point where I give up for a few days then go back at it again only to come across someone trying to sell me a George Barris car, but only to get mad at me when I ask legit questions about the car.

I was about to buy plane tickets and buy this beautiful gem I was that close.

So now I'm back to square one where people are saying to stay away from an entire generation, but then get told by dealers that's not true and hybrid repair shops telling me to stay away from the first 3 years of Gen 3.

People! I'm frustrated, depressed and depleted. Buying a used dependable highly rated vehicle shouldn't be this hard.

If anyone has a used Prius they're selling because they're passion is Prius and they want a 2023 and they KNOW that the angst I'm dealing with, they LOVE their car to the point their ENTIRE family drives one, but they have an older type Prius they want to get rid of to their grandma or mother. PLEASE. Let me know because I'm tired of sketchy dealers on Marketplace taking advantage of Prius lovers with face weird names posing as Prius owners.

I will purchase a one way ticket to pick up your most dependable used ugly bright Prius. Ugly the better because that thing is going to be lifted and taken to the trails of the Mojave desert. Thank you.

You want a generation two for these antics not a three The one NZ engine The two ZZ is two problematic. Or it is for a lot of people that are used to quality Toyota engines I guess. And if they don't know any of that then I guess you really can't feel too bad the stuff usually happens south of 190,000 so there's always that. A generation too and all kinds of forms and conditions can be had from $500 on up seriously.

The only significant Gen 3 difference I can think of is piston rings revision, partway through model year 2014, should help with oil consumption, for a higher mileage prosplect, say over 150K. See attached for the VIN number at which that revision happened.

Other'n that, I'd be cautious with any year with over 100K, VERY cautious with anything over 150K: could be a head gasket failure in progress. Expecially if it's been "religously maintained" by dealership. It may have a stop-leak product masking symptoms too.

Always ask to cold-start any prospective vehicle. If they're not happy with that, walk. Still keep in mind the aforementioned stop-leak product may mask the cold-start shakes, harbinger of head gasket failure. That stop-leak product should be illegal, my 2 cents.

Also, just for giggles, check the dipstick; an oil-burner owner may be dumb enough to not top it up, who knows...

Thank you I am truly learning lots!

But sadly I have to do all this remotely as I can't find a single good quality Prius in my state anywhere. I have to travel one way to pick up a car or have it shipped. I know I know...sight unseen but I don't have much of a choice.
My latest found was a 2005 with 93k miles replaced battery in 2017 for only $6000 or a 2017 with all the features I want that fits snug in my budget of $10K but with over 150,000 miles with clean title but has been damaged twice due to fender benders. I can totally skip Gen 3 and go right to Gen 4, but is it worth it?

No find the southern used leather generation 2 You can buy them in almost any mileage you want down here generally they'll be sitting right around $100,110 so on and so forth there's a two-tone gray leather one sitting here on Facebook marketplace right in my area 27243 I think they're asking six but I'm sure they'll come down those days are almost for are over I most of these cars I see popping up on here for $4,500 to 6900 I know they're not selling for what they're asking I'm pretty much sure of that I wish there was an app that would tell me what they really sold for you know final deal I know I would be shocked at a lot of these things.

AW MAN, I just took a peep at your zip code and um ya. I'm in love with your prices. I found a couple of moonroofs/solar panels that would be nice to have in the Mojave and found a lovely green (my favorite Prius color) all in my price range. Dangit I live in the wrong part of the country as a Prius lover.

I see tons of Prius in online auto auctions that go fairly low. I bid on them just to see the outcome. Suspect some are ai rigged auctions but hey it’s worth a shot. Ever try one?

All the gen 2s in my area are sold by the rich who bought them as a status symbol back in the day and have shifted to Teslas plus other Elec SUVs.

I haven't tried auctions. I don't even know where to begin to find one.

I’m sure the west has something like Manheim https://site.manheim.com/ one of my uncles who was a mechanic made ends meet by buying from auctions and flipping the cars. I’ve seen gen 4s going for under 10k in my local auction. Wish I had that capital to get out of my gen 3.

Why you'll almost have the same problem with the Gen 4 especially with everything else besides the engine interior and trim is just cheap flimsy You know these newer cars it's unbelievable A Tesla's made to go a million miles yeah it'll need three drivers each to do it at $3,000 a pop or something similar ridiculous All the door panels in my 2013 are completely blown out You can't put your arm on an armrest the whole center section of the door panel wants to cave in and fall into a hole there's no fixing that can't glue it can't make anything happen it's just cheap plastic welds that break . I've seen this in several junkyard cars several cars on the road so I know I'm not the only one. The soft tex seats Do very well compared to the real semi-perated leather and all of that but the rest of the interiors plastic on the exterior front and rear bumper covers cave in if you look at them wrong so on and so forth really cheaply made compared to a generation too it's like a century of difference in manufacturing almost it's weird.

Been to Mannheim in person but I’ve never used their site. Capital auto auctions is pretty easy to use You get restrictions to some vehicles based on whether you’re a licensed dealer and because of your state. Most of them have no restrictions though.

I try to catch him before they get to these stupid auctions just getting harder and harder to do now because people are hard or headed. These auction sites and auctions places are taking a cut so there's always that of course you're going to places where everybody's trying to push the car up to three or $4,000 or way more I buy most of my generation twos and what have you for like $700 running I mean I'm not kidding and I don't do anything to anybody I don't lie to him or tell him the car is going to fall into a big gaping hole into the earth and all this kind of nonsense I just tell them straight up they see all my cars sitting here and what I'm driving and pretty much that's that most people that I buy one of these cars from nose that I'm going to drive it It's not here for me to change tires in a few pieces on and then I'm selling it oh no You can come right by here every day of the week and see the tag on it and see it's being driven if that's what makes you tick. I do not resell things .

How much do you want to spend? Are you looking for something cheaper that you will put some money into, or wanting to spend some more now on something that has work done?
