Anyone else get random 'doors unlocked' 'check your back seat' messages?

From time to time I get alerts on my smart phone that my doors are unlocked, that I should check my back seat, etc.

Weird as it usually seems to happen with the car's in the garage.

And I disabled the 'back seat reminder'.

Could somebody have poached my remote already?

Keys are usually in a metal box, or at the very least at the back of the house.

If the car is in your garage, is it locked? Dumb question I know.

Fair question. I’m pretty fussy about keeping the car locked, even when garaged.

What is your after charge lock setting? Is the "charge complete" unlocking the doors by any chance?

Sorry I posted on another thread, but these are my two peeves I'm having right now; both the rear seat thing, and continued beeping after I lock the car! What is this? I cannot find the 'off' setting for the rear seat messaging!

the rear seat reminder is in preferences
you have to go in and shut it off
    think it's in 'customization'
check page 170 of the owner's manual

I had turned off the rear seat reminder using the Multimedia Display a few days after I got the car. Up till then I hadn't gotten any warnings. Later I started getting a warning light on the MID display. Only time anyone was in the back was when I gave my daughter's family a ride the first day I got the car.

The warning light disappeared after I buckled all the seat belts in the back, which had been left unbuckled.

I don't THINK it is... but then again, I'm discovering options and setting I never even knew the car had.

As of this morning, no alerts on my phone. And I don't think I've done anything differently... Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey all, thanks SOuch for the help! I found both settings in the app and instrument cluster and turned them off! Here's a new question about the TPMS settings...there's two options ....what do they mean and how much psi should I have in the tires? Right now, they're basically say 35 front 34 rear... the first option looks like it's recommended pressures and the second looks like it's actual, but when I changed to the 2nd setting, the tpms light flashed and then said on the display 'hold for update' but nothing happened.

My understanding is there’s provision for a 2nd set of tps sensors… in your winter tires.

My door sticker says 35 front 30 rear.

so the question is- for the first setting, is that the actual setting for the tires on the car, or is it the 'expected' or desired setting'?

I think it’s actual. And as mentioned a second set of sensors can be programmed in for the winter set. I adjusted my rear pressures today and saw a change in the displayed values

    The tire pressure monitor setting:

Correct - you can select "Set By Numerical Value", or "Set Using Current Pressure"

For Set By Numerical Value the system allows choosing either 36 or 35 psi for front and 35 or 33 for rear
For Set Using Current Pressure, it will say "Hold OK to Update", which after holding OK all pressures turn to ----, then after a short while the current pressures will appear and those are the set points.

It is not possible to later find what the set points are actually, nor even which mode was used to set them.

The 'REAR' indicator at the top-left of the MID is just letting you know whether the rear seatbelts are buckled, in case you have kids in the back or whatever, so you don't have to look over your shoulder to check.

It's different from the 'check rear seats' notice; that one happens if you open the rear doors at any point before your drive and it's there to prevent you from forgetting cargo in the back of the car, and can be disabled in the settings.

    Update:

So this morning I notice that what I think planetarian calls the "'REAR' indicator at the top-left of the MID" is illuminated. 3 red sets of buckles.
I've got in the habit with driving with the left rear seat folded, sometimes both, as somewhere to put my bag when I head into work.

The middle seat has been buckled since i got the car.

So, thinking that might be something new (don't remember it consistently on before) I take my bag off the seat, put it into the cargo area, and put the seat up and back down.

    No difference, lights stay on.

So I arrive at work, power down the car....

and about 2 hrs later get a message on the Toyota app telling me to check the rear seat.

    What the heck?!

I guess i have to wade back into the morass of 'preferences' in the user- configurable menus.....

As I recall, some car manufacturers are programming 'check rear seat' into their cars' software. This was/is due to people leaving their kids in the rear car seat. 'Mom-brain'; lack of sleep due to first infant??? No offense to anyone out there. I have no idea how each individual car manufacturer is implementing this change - but probably worth looking into...

As far as the car unlocking by itself, there's no real way of verifying this unless you walk out there to see if it's physically unlocked or a software/sensor glitch. If it is unlocked, it may be related to the above paragraph. To allow people to remove the kid without resorting to breaking into the car.

Hopefully you find out what's going on; and let us know what you find.....

The 'REAR' indicator doesn't have any connection with whether you've opened the rear doors, folded the seats, etc.. as far as I know, it always appears for a few seconds when you start your car, regardless of other actions.

The 'check rear seat' notice occurs if you've opened the rear doors at all during or before your last driving 'session', and can be disabled.

I'm pretty sure these were present since day 1 when I got mine in June; I didn't notice the 'REAR' thing immediately either but within a couple days I noticed it (probably after I had gotten used to the other common elements of the MID).

Yeah…. Started with the 3 red seats, and they went away.

And I HAD shut off the ‘check rear seat’ reminder a while ago; don’t carry small kids or critters anymore.

Next car has to have a thinner owner’s manual!

I seem to remember when I picked up the car from the dealer, the rear seats were buckled, but I didn't see the 'red rear seats' lights. Now I see them occasionally, but ignore them. I don't have kids, and only occasionally have a person in the rear seat- the thing I might have at the most is a box (overflow from the trunk items) that I'll need to put there, but maybe less than once a month.
