I’m changing my brake actuator, does anyone have the official guide?

You need a scan tool or techstream access to bleed it correctly, I did the same install a few months. Will post a link to the thread. I got links to videos..

You need a good box wrench set to loosen the brake lines and the bleed valves. If you’re going to do it alone you should get the brake bleeding kit that’ll attach to the valve and catch the fluid and have oil pan or something as back up.

The scan tool capable of doing the brake bleeding procedure will walk you through everything. I had difficulty because mine wouldn’t bleed with my iPhone but it did with my Samsung device. As far as time, not sure.

I had the same problem. There’s a button at the pedal that when you push on the brake the brake lights come on. Your pedal is “too high” or low so it’s engaging the button even when you’re off the brake. There’s a zip tie like connection that you can adjust which allows you to reposition the pedal. I think the new brake actuators are slightly longer or shorter or something.

@ChapmanF recommended checking to see if the master cylinder is up against the firewall properly. If it’s up against the firewall and you used a new gasket like the manual says, then you can adjust the zip tie like thing. You only got one shot to adjust it right though so I would go little by little checking to see if the brake lights are still on when the brake pedal is depressed. When you get it right it’ll obviously turn the brake lights off. Maybe look for a video or the brake pedal diagram if you can’t find the part I keep calling a zip tie.

to understand the button I’m talking about, look at your door. It’s got the same concept with a button that is pressed when the door is closed. When your door is open the button isn’t pressed in by the door so your cabin light and convenience light comes on. Hope that makes sense.

 

which scan tool do you have?
I don’t have tech stream either. You need a scan tool that can do the bleeding. If you manually bleed, the car will brake like a regular car but the code will be there and the warning lights will stay on the dash. The new master cylinder will lock with some evil code that can only be removed with the proper bleeding procedure. I don’t recommend driving like that.

Maybe you can get an advanced scan tool from AutoZone? When you finally do the procedure correctly the noise from the master cylinder bleeding sounds like hearing anakin skywalker take his first breath in the darth Vader mask.

 

Attached is Toyota's bulletins (primarily for dealership mechanics). The smaller one's intro, the larger the meat-and-potato. It calls for a bunch of "special tools", but I think you can cobble, improvise. Techstream mandatory I think.

 

Did you also install a new booster pump? I swapped mine the year before I changed the brake master cylinder. They work in tandem.

Tech stream or a capable scan tool is paramount/key/required. I got a thinkdiag Bluetooth scan tool that has brake bleeding as a special function. If yours doesn’t have that capability you can’t do the repair.
