There are tricks with setting, and releasing the timing chain tensioner as well; I think fairly well covered, around 29:00 in this GM video:

Very thorough video btw. There is a continuity error, some repetition of content, starts around 33:00.

Bolt is not yet removed; I'm waiting to make an action plan to properly take it out in order to not due it quickly and f**k it up, since it's a hit or miss kind of thing. Does it need to be out of place in order to do the piston check?

A Prius engine doesn't really need a wrench to turn the crankshaft if there's no compression (as when the spark plugs are out, or the whole head is off). Turning it with a hand on the crank pulley is about as much effort as the handwheel on an old sewing machine.

I'm a little loss (having never done this myself lol). I believe you've got the timing chain cover off, accordingly the (beltless) pulley wheel on the end of the crankshaft off, and the bolt going through that pulley wheel off as well?

The pulley will easily slide back on (make sure the key's in the keyway too) for temporary sewing-machine-twirling duty.

Here’s some pics to show what I have off at the moment. Starting to get a little lost with all the different terms now :( these pics were from when I removed the timing cover, so ignore the head block still being on, and also the chain is removed as well.

Make sure you put the engine at TDC on the compression stroke.
And lock down the intake cam shaft.

It doesn't looke like the oil was changed very often. And cheap oil was used.
    Maybe even non synthetic oil.

I checked the pistons using the gasket masters video; according to everything they do which is check if they move when « pushing » them within their chamber, seeing if they align etc…and they are normal!

Yeah I’ve only done one oil change since having it as I have only had it one year, and my oil change was actually done at the mechanic’s. But before me, don’t know if the previous owner did a good job at keeping up with oil changes
