Recently got a 2006 prius with a new hybrid battery. The problem I'm having is when I try to start the car. It will become ready but will not go into drive or r, it only will go into neutral. So Ill disconnect the battery for a while, reconnect it and the car will start, go into gear and drive fine, but whenever I turn the car off it's done! No crank no go into gear only neutral again and the red triangle of doom

Have the codes read and let us know whether you get a P0AA6 coming up.

    Hello and welcome to PriusChat.

If your car has problems and warning lights present, then you should use a scantool to check all ecu's on the car for fault codes.

Many scantools (including ones used by most parts stores) can only communicate with a few systems on a Prius. You need a more capable scantool to check the 15-16 systems on your Gen2.

One option is Techstream - Toyota's diagnostic software. Use the search function.

The legit version is a subscription (X dollars for Y days of use) from Toyota and requires a laptop to run the software and a Vehicle Communication Interface cable to connect to the car's OBD port.

Anything else found on the web is pirated version with some sort of hack to bypass the license. These can be fiddly to set up on a laptop, and also need a VCI.

A different option is to get a device and app to turn a smartphone into a scantool. Here's a thread that reviews several.

Your problem could be a fault with your "new" HV battery. I would suggest getting a scantool that can retrieve INF sub codes. These give more info about a fault.

FYI, your first 5 posts are moderated and can take some time before they show up on the forum.
