It is kind of funny how they recruit mostly teenagers to sell 25,000+ (how much are they, prob more) dollar solar systems!!

I just found the most economical way to change up.

FREE at my Local Giant Grocery store!! Plus the best parking spot possible ;) seems at a 20% free charge I got about 8 free miles roughly for the hour of shopping (1hr 12mins as I sat in the car in “My room” mode and was messing with settings).

I guess with the current price of groceries one could argue this is entrapment for us PHEV / EV owners, but I digress. Haha

I also found out that one of the local state parks near me that I frequent has two free EV chargers near the hiking trails! Win - Win!!

Swung by the state park today since I was in the area to scope out the free chargers. Both were in use (Tesla model S and BMW I3)….oh well can’t win em all. Haha.

The toyota app will direct you to chargers. Pretty neat. The Acme a couple towns over has a couple free ones too.

Our local libraries and public works buildings also has free chargers. Some of our local casino's also offer free charging - I'm pretty sure they only offer that, so you don't have to take the bus home.:p:Do_O:cry::LOL::ROFLMAO::whistle:

There are no "free" chargers, someone (everyone) pays.
Electric meters bill at the rate of whichever of the 2 legs (115 + 115 = 230) is spinning the fastest, so if you are using a 115 volt charger and all other electric loads on the meter are balanced you will be billed at twice the actual kilowatt hours used.
Never had a Prime 'sposed to be getting a 2023 next week. Will most likely be doing the 220 charger conversion ASAP. I already have a fair amount of 20 amp 220 circuits/outlets installed for industrial type shop equipment.
Starting to scope out DIMS solar power components.
Retired, our typical errand runs are 12 miles round trip.

Questionable that ChargePoint and other public charge ports could get away with telling me they delivered 21.2 kWh into my 13.59 kWh battery. There is about a 2-5% loss documented for Level 2 charging, not 100%.

Please talk specific 220v meters that can be used to measure power going into each charge with at least three digit precision XX.X or XX.XX kWh.

Knowing how much power I am putting in my car is very important to me. There are many options for measuring at 120v, (I have two. One reads +2% one reads -2%). I have not seen a comparable 220v plug/receptacle meter. What I see requires mounting in the "fuse box" and are quite expensive by comparison.

2 meters All you need to do is put a clamp on each leg. Don't even need to cut the wires. Clamps/legs should inside some sort of electrical enclosure. each leg metered separately you can see any imbalance at a glance.

Yeah, one more extra expense to add 240v charging. I would love to have Level 2 available, but fact is I don't need it and the cost to do it right is hard to justify.

Calculating my actual at-home costs of charging the Prime for October. Drove 1,684.7 mles.. I used 95.301 kWh (measured at the wall outlet using a PN2500 Electricity Usage Monitor). Multiplied by the electric cost of $0.06 per kWh equates to $5.72. I did charge a few times away from home but it was all "free" (sons home, parents home, airbnb in Hood River etc).

How much gas did you use during that period?
This gets a bit complicated don't it?
So far haven't found "the screen" that gives me a good breakdown of gas/electric use?
Set up a "dongle" to use an existing 20A 220 outlet to power the stock charging cord this week. So far so good.
only 360 miles on it so far still using the V.

Finally got our first full month electric bills the other day (Yes, Plural as I have 2 meters. One on house and one on my detached Garage)

The Garage bill went up right around $21 for the full month of charging. I work a 4 day, 10 hr work week plus OT on some days off so I have been fully charging 5-6 days a week and sometimes topping off on my days off if running errands, etc.

I have roughly 1800 miles on the Prime now and just filled up with gas for the 2nd time but it wasn’t empty, prob 1/4 tank and had gas points expiring. I have been experimenting with using HV on the highway stretch of my drive home vs pure EV. I’m still trying to figure out at what speed it’s more economical to switch to HV. I’ve been keeping notes trying to figure it out but anyone have any input?

So: $28 in gas for the month (1st fillup since dealer tank)
$21 in Electric (I also used a free grocery store charger a couple times for maybe 2 hrs total this month).

Less than $50 to run for the whole month!

Pretty amazing!! Absolutely loving the new prime! I was spending $75+ minimum a week on 93 octane for the WRX.

Guesstimate is aprox. 24.5 gallons of gas. Averaging what I paid per gallon ($4.43), that comes to $108.54. So for the month, my total expense was $114.26. Compared to my previous vehicle averaging only 20.2 mpg (2019 Ford F150), I used about 58 gallons less. At $4.43/gallon, that is about $257 in savings overall.

@Blizzard_Persona I noticed back in your post #22 asking about the electrical rate, I also got 0.287 / kW
than in post #30 from @Hammersmith just eyeballin without checking the #'s looks very nice, thanks.
Another thing you can do since you have 2 bills is to see if the total kW charges (or using @Hammersmith
s breaking down formula) do both bills give you the same rate / kW.
ie: my electric rate varies a few cents almost every month and my gas rate swings widely for each therm, the months I don't need gas for home heating, only hot water, range and clothes dryer.

What works for me is using CarScanner app on my phone paired to an "ELM327" OBD11 bluetooth adapter (if asking for a recommended adapter include your price range) to watch how long it takes the coolant to get from whatever temp it's at when starting, to the temp the car is programmed to shut the engine off at.
I'm pretty sure you'll find that the Prius "warm-up cycle" finishes faster at lower mph. Than the question is how much faster does the warmup cycle finish and / or how much slower mph make a noticeable difference at whatever ambient and coolant temps you're seeing.

Just got our new Peco Electric bill (SE PA).

2nd full month of charging the 23 Prius Prime XSE resulted in a just under $29 increase in our separate bill for the detached garage.

Last month the full price increase was right around $21.

Maybe it’s possible I charged it more this month, either way seems like right around $1 a day to fully charge the Red Devil. Could be sometimes less depending on usage, and could be slightly over if charging every single day. :)

-I have no idea if Peco offers “off peak” rate pricing, But either way it wouldn’t really matter. I work night shift and have to charge during the day while I sleep. I really wish there was free chargers at my work…maybe eventually.
