Well, I just opened up my new AP 200 scanner and download the app… But it says that in order to power the dongle the car need to be able to go into the key on position…!!

I called Customer Service and they said without power to the dongle it cannot pair to Bluetooth nor do a scan.

I have my AGM battery out, topping it off to 13.2 V… I wonder if I reconnect it, if I can get the AP200 dongle to power on / maybe they are mistaken??…
    I’ll give it a try …

That's weird. The onboard diagnostics port always receives power direct from the 12v battery. Always. It's part of US federal emissions regulation. You'd think they'd know that.

Now, it may not have much opportunity to talk to the car's ECUs until more things are turned on, but the dongle itself will receive power from the battery unless that part of the wiring harness has been damaged.

And indeed there is power to light the dongles LED...and even to power the donge so it can be paired to the smmartphone app vis bluetooth....BUT when "read ODB" is slected....it goes through a 3 minute progress-bar of "communicating" (15%, 50%, 82%, etc)....but comes back "could not conenct to the system...make sure key is "ON" -- which is my problem...with fob insterted and beeping, the start button is dead....and therefore will not turn "on" the systtems ot UCU's that need to be read!

I would tow it to a dealer, but can a Techstream system even read a car that wont power on??

I wouldn't expect it to have any different result than your bluetooth reader.

Did you get anywhere with the repair manual as ChapmanF suggested in post 13? I think that's the best advice I've read in this thead.

Agreed - I was skeptical that the ODB port would communicate to pull codes if the car r issue was no power-up...but Mr Huy Mann suggested the AUTEL scanner, so i figured he knew it would read. But sadly, nope. So that was "Todays adventure"....but i think im gonna have it towed to a shop that knows their shit. I dont have the memory cells at this point to drop the dash, test multipin connectors, and put it back together correctly!% - I need a guy that does this shit all the time.

I wish I knew someone talented near me in CT - Im very reluctant to bring it to a dealer, after reading a similar thread with another person who brought hers to a dealer, and after $3000 dollars in labor they said "We give up"..... f that.
