Do you think you'll be able to survive all the ear pain? :ROFLMAO:

I'm guessing you have a bangin' system in your 2009?

I continue to be surprised at the sound upgrade from the stock G4 (2019) to G5. It's VERY serviceable. Really nice bass and clarity when tuned and listening to "modern" music mixes. HD radio is something I didn't have in the G4 either which sucked, because I had it in the Mazda prior.

Ha! I have the JBL stereo and have really enjoyed it through the past 8 years. I’ll forget about it eventually but it’s the one upgrade I would have splurged on. That and the digital mirror. You would think these would add some profit over some of the other options I scrolled through.

I listen to current (non hip hop) music so I should be fine. I will mostly miss my CD player. : } Not crazy about relying on my phone for this.

Why not get the Limited then with your inheritance money? I don't like the mid-trims—I would either get the base or top trim. PVM on the Limited is really cool, too.

Have you tried the digital mirror out? A lot of people don't like looking at it. Some even get a bit disorientated (dizzy?)

You can convert your CD's to a digital file and then use a thumb drive in your car. Same quality. Maybe better.

I'm not certain your 14 yr old JBL system would be superior to the base 2023 system. You definitely wouldn't have HD radio.

Thanks. I hadn’t heard of people getting dizzy. I get migraines so maybe best that I don’t have one.

When I got back into my 2009 after test driving the 2023 my radio sounded wonderful! But…I also didn’t have time to play with it.

Partly because I don’t want the glass roof and I’m trying to keep within a certain price range. They already squawked at the XLE price when they heard I wouldn’t be getting much for my 2009. If I was going to spend more, I’d rather put the money towards the Prime if it came without the red accents on the softex. : )

Why don’t you like the mid-trims?

Oh yeah. If you didn't tune the radio, the equalizer will be set to all zeros. You'd think a car company would tune their radios from the factory to a base optimal setting. Having a poor music experience during a test drive can be quite off-putting.

The good news is, the sound system (optimized) is much better than you experienced.

I traded in my 2020 Prius Prime XLE for a 2021 Limited because it missed so many things. I guess Gen 5 Prius XLE is OK.

That said, I would never downgrade to an HEV, but I understand if you are unable to charge it.

    Those crazy big wheels again!

The longer I wait the more I wish I could get the Prime but knowing myself I would be driving to find ways to charge for free. Plus the $5000 difference increases insurance premium. No doubt once I get my Prius a few free charging stations will appear near buy.

I read the issue is the fact that using the digital mirror requires your eyes to refocus to a different distance. Looking at a car in the rearview mirror is the same distance to your eyes as looking at the car ahead. Looking at the digital mirror is looking at a nearby video screen, and your eyes need to adjust to that after looking far down the road. In addition to there being that bit of time to refocus, the constant shifting of focal length could be bothersome.

I would think if you have some issue when changing view from down to road to looking at the dash, the digital mirror could be more likely to be a problem.

So, I guess you guys don't use the rear-view monitor either when you back up but turn your heads back instead then. ;)

It is not just economics. Driving a PHEV or BEV is a much better feeling. If you drove one once, you would never go back to an HEV.

It looks like dealers around Connecticut have many Priuses and Prius Primes on their lots selling at MSRP. Why don't you shop around?

    The
No dealer near m has them sitting around. They list them on their website as soon as they are allocated to customers. This way it generates calls from potential buyers. Mine…well the one that was initially going to be mine… was listed for 6 weeks before it arrived.

When I am backing up, the car is stopped, and I have time to adjust my vision to the screen.

Driving forward down a road, I regularly check the rear view mirror. That focus adjustment while the car is in motion can lead to issues. The entire reason past Prius models had central dash displays or the 'HUD' at the base of the dash, or the new one its above the steering wheel layout, is to increase the eye the instrument distance, which eases that strain time of that far to close focus strain.

OK, technology naysayer, I am not sure why would you look at the back all the time when you are driving, but it could be a good eye exercise. ;)

I guess you also don't realize that the digital rearview mirror has an actual-mirror mode that can be turned on and off with a button.

Last but not least, without a digital rearview mirror, the rear view range in a Prius is very limited.

With the large rear-view monitor available when the car is in reverse, my only use for the rear-view mirror is for a quick glance to evaluate the state of traffic behind me. So, the glance is a second or two at most. It doesn't matter that it's slightly out of focus.

Thank you for confirming that the digital rearview mirror works.

Yes and I guess this would be another reason that a regular rear-view mirror is sufficient.

@daisy555, also note that the Prius HEV lacks front corner radars and therefore does not get some of the safety features the Prius Prime PHEV has, such as lane-change assist (LCA), front-traffic collision alert (FTCA), and traffic-jam assist. I think these are really cool safety features, and the lack of them on the Prius HEV is another deal-breaker for me.
