Is 2024 Prius/Prius Prime imminent?

Are you comparing the XLE to the XSE? I thought I had compared them side by side and the safety features were the same unless I got the Limited versions which has some additional options. I’m having trouble comparing them right now because I’m on my phone.

 

I see only Rear Cross Traffic Alert comes with Prius. How is Front Cross Traffic Alert different from Pre-Collision System with pedestrian Detection. Doesn’t detect cars crossing?

LCA verses Lane Tracing and Lane Departure Assist?

My main concern is wanting a car that will assist with breaking if a pedestrian runs out in front of me which has happened. I’m still traumatized by it.

 

It's a difference between non-Primes and Primes irrespective of trim levels - all Primes have the FCTA+LCA package.

FCTA itself is an early warning, based on side radar - blips at you and gives you some visual indication of approaching traffic if it thinks you might be pulling out onto road in front of a vehicle approaching from left or right.

The side radar also improves the capability of the pre-collision system to detect crossing vehicles. Doesn't say it improves anything about pedestrians - they're not fast enough to need side radar to detect early.... I believe the braking for pedestrians is based on cameras, front radar and parking sensors.

Lane Change Assist is an extension of the Lane Tracing Assist - it can carry out lane changes.

With an actual mirror, your eyes don't need to do much refocusing. For some people, that glance needs to be a little longer with the digital mirror, because that is going from distance viewing to up close. It was mentioned some even develop headaches using it. Won't know until it is test driven.

 

Yes, the change in focus can be an issue, especially for us old folk that it takes longer to adjust. However, I have driven a RAV4 that had the digital mirror, and I love it. Especially when the back end is loaded up and the regular mirror is completely blocked. I just take care to make sure I have two or three seconds to look in the digital mirror and back to the front without any front issues.

Also, it's nice and bright in low light.

 

Actually, I found it a bit too bright even on it's lower settings.

I've still got pretty good peripheral vision, and the backlight leak from the mirror was just enough in the corner of my eye to mess with my night vision while highway driving in the middle of nowhere.


To be clear, I'm not saying I hate it, wish I didn't have it, or will never use it, just that I prefer flipping to the standard mirror in most cases. I know I'll be using the digital mirror in only a month or two when the snow and ice fly and I can drive without scraping my rear window.

 

Really? How did you come to that conclusion?

Now, there's currently a bug in the configurator software that only lets you select this package if you also choose Wind Chill Pearl, but there's no way that's intentional on Toyota's part. The 2024 Prime configurator just went live a couple days ago, and someone must have accidentally checked a wrong box and no one has caught it yet.

But all the option packages for 2024 are identical to 2023.

 

My California dealer called me today to tell me my 2024 Prius Limited has arrived at the dealer and I can stop by and pick it up any time. I ordered a 2023 last June. I am not sure if Toyota will honor the 2023 pricing. My dealer, Toyota101, is MSRP only. My salesperson, Roy, has been great.

 

That is where I stand on it. I don't like it if the rear window isn't blocked, however it is a good alternative when I need a wider view. In parking lots in town, it is a real advantage because it widens your view so much. It makes me a little dizzy on the highway because of the4 refocus time. I've had the car now for 5 days, and not enough experience to see if I can adapt. I'm withholding judgment until I get some more miles on the car.

 

We have been waiting since March for the 2023 Prius LE getting very impatient. They told us we would have to wait 6 months. Contacted dealer and he said it is changed to a 2024. I am on the East Coast and I see dealers have some in the have been shipped mode which can take another month. What bothers me is our trade in value has certainly decreased for our 2017 model.

 

That’s unfortunate that your trade in value is decreasing. I’m still waiting and just had to buy new tires and replace my expensive HID bulb. Fingers crossed that’s all. Not looking forward to selling my 2009 mid winter.
