Took my first road extended trip with my new Limited, 3+ hours each route over a long weekend. On the way I noticed Google Maps through AA had no audio guidance, though it had worked some until then. Coming back yesterday, the audio went out in middle of a Sirius XM song. Actually no audio from anything. Restarted engine at a stoplight, but couldn't sit extended secs before light changed. Still none. Pulled off at gas stop 20 minutes or so later, restarted a few times with couple minutes in between restarts. Still no change. Note, I'm definitely seeing tracks change on Sirius throughout the silence.

Drove another highway hour through silence, stopped at rest stop, myself and passengers left car to visit facilities. When I restarted the car, Sirius audio had returned. Not sure about AA Google Maps as no need for it on highway driving homeward.

I figured it's a software glitch that eventually worked itself out. Anyone else with similar happenings?

No specific advice on this issue, but a tip: holding the audio power button for a few seconds causes a reset of the head unit - that might clear any temporary glitches more easily.

Don't know that it does any more than power cycling the car though.

Thanks for the tip. I figured there must be a way to restart the unit short of a full engine off.

Also related, as I mentioned Google Maps audio instruction through Android Auto is still not working. Anyone else?

Yep, I've been having occasional issues too. Anecdotally so far I think all are indirectly related to Android Auto. For two of the issues, I used the "press and hold" feature of the volume knob to reboot the infotainment and all was good. A few days ago the system just spontaneously rebooted itself! Bit spooky, but going along with it. I've had the car just over two months, so three reboots in that timeframe.

I can’t get my darn apple Car play to reconnect? It’s driving me nuts.

Tried “forgetting” my phone on the screen of the car and also under Bluetooth. It will look like it reconnects but the CarPlay part won’t show up.

I can get my phones audio to play through the speakers eventually but CarPlay just won’t?

CarPlay worked perfectly fine for the first few weeks but for the last couple weeks it has disconnected randomly after charging the Prime it seems.

Blizzard_Persona: I'm on the Android camp and besides the reboots I regularly lose my wireless connection. To try and see if it is Android in general or related to just the wireless part I'm starting to go wired for any trip greater than an hour. Too early to tell yet without much data, but at least so far wired is working pretty reliably. Too early to be sure yet, I'll keep trying and report back.

What model IPhone are you using? Is is it using the latest 17.0.3 update?

^^i have been running wired recently but maybe I have it plugged into the wrong usb plug? I have my wire running into the armrest console and snake it through the little hole and rest my phone in the charging dock? Does wired connection work from all usb plugs or only the ones down under the screens?

I had my phone set to automatic updates but I guess for some reason it did not update. I just completed that update and we’ll see what happens later when I try to connect. Thanks for the heads up.

Update: As suggested above, the new iPhone update combined with “forgetting” my phone on both the phone and screen and re pairing it did indeed work :)(y)

Blizzard_Persona: Yep, you suspect correct! Of the six USB plugs, only one is for comms, the other five are only for charging. The one for comms is in the front above the #secretcompartment on the left side. It is the one without the lightning bolt (supposed to be implying charging only).

Every time I lose my connection to Android Auto, I just go back to the settings on my multimedia under Settings, then Bluetooth & Devices, look for the 'Connect' button, next to the 'Forget' button, and then hit it. It takes about 10 seconds, but then reconnects every time. I wonder if it has to do with updates to the app or to the Multimedia where it's not synching all the time. Make sure the 'Use for Android Auto' is enabled, just like in the picture below.

Argyros: Yep, that is what i do too if running wireless. There have been one or two times when even that didn't work, but 90+% of the time it does. There have just been several trips where even though that works, I've had to do it multiple times which got annoying, hence seeing if going wired is a 100% solution. If it is, then I know it is Bluetooth not working for some reason! If I still get errors even on wired, then it is something else. I have a not-so-old Galaxy S21, so not something that should be considered too old.

I force a reset of the infotainment system by pressing and holding the button on the display for several seconds. One or two times, I needed to do it twice. The nice thing is that it requires no real attention to do it; so it can be done while you are driving.

It seems like either the car or the phone(or both) are unable to automatically reestablish a wireless connection once it's broken. I've also switched to using a cord for anything over a 10-20min trip. If I'm using wireless and lose connection, I mostly use Argyors's method of Bluetooth & Devices -> Connect. A couple times that hasn't worked, so I've had to do aforkosh's method of forcing the reset of the infotainment system by pushing and holding the dial button.

Hammersmith and Argyors, looks like we've all gravitated towards the same remedies! :) I don't have Android Auto on any other car, so no way for me to isolate between the car and phone (My Gen1 was "before Bluetooth"!). Hammersmith, if going wired is reliable, then does sound like the inability to re-establish an interrupted BT connection, something I can see happening regularly. I have a 20+ day road trip coming up, so that will be a really good test of how stable the wired connection will be.

I've a tech-related background and finally resolved this problem. Turned out to be the System voice volume had to be raised through infotainment Settings, though it was set at default middle.

With music playing over Sirius, every time I tested the voice within Google Maps Navigation settings, the music volume would decrease a decibel or two for the test, but heard no voice to be heard. After many attempts and clearing Google Maps cache on my phone, I thought I barely heard something in the test sound. I cranked the music music way up to 10+ (I usually listen no louder than 6) and was finally hearing the test voice. Aha!

Went into Infotainment Settings and found a couple sound volume adjustments. I think it was the one labeled System Voice or something that that. It was set default middle so I cranked it up and finally hearing the nav voice test at a recognizable volume. I swear Maps was fully audible when I first used it and I hadn't changed the infotainment volume setting. I think it's a Bluetooth glitch. Who knows but works now...

For me, the wireless connection is stable as long as I'm in the car. But if I'm running errands in my little town, I'll often leave the car running and take my phone with me if it's a very short errand(like picking up something I've pre-ordered or running into a convenience store for one or two things. That's when I'll lose the connection and it won't reconnect when the phone is back in range. That's also why I've gotten good at discovering workarounds to reconnect quickly.

When your Android Auto/Carplay is in the middle of voicing directions, you can also increase the volume of just the navigation voice (but not the radio/etc.) voice by using the toggle volume switch on the steering wheel, or if you're fast enough, to turn the volume knob up. I've increased the volume several times on my navigation that way. You just have to do it while the voice is speaking. I found that out in my last car, and tested it out with my Prius; it works with both of them.

Argyros: I just discovered that feature by accident yesterday! For me it was really low volumes too and a voice prompt happened to come up just as I was adjusting volume for music and I realized that it changed the navigation volume instead. Cool, but no way I'd have ever known that other than accidental discovery. I'm hoping that fixes my low volume for incoming text messages too.
