Consumer Reports review and ratings of Gen 5 Prius—with side-by-side comparison to Gen 4

All these problems in the CR review, and the comments piling on: just make me feel young!!!! None of these problems are real, the car is such a fun, impractical, practical, sports car, not sports car, green (it is - can't argue with that one!). Still loving it. Until I get a flat tire.

 

I already had a 2023? I must have sold it. I don’t see it around here.

 

Too much responsibility makes me stressed. I’ll ask them at the front desk what happened to my car since I can’t figure it out.

 

I thought it was funny and a little bit sad when the reviewer mentioned, that its tight even for him who is only 5'-10". Actually only roughly 25% of adults in the states are taller. And I feel many of these male reviewers forget woman exist.

 

Again, people can talk about the gen4 negatively anyway they feel like because free speech and it’s their opinion. But when someone else talks about gen5 in a way they don't like, it’s the thought police called, and hate charged. They want it to agree with them both ways. I can’t quite understand it except it has been a trend the past 58 months. I can say what I want, but everyone else can’t or it’s hate.
No way I am in the market but both g4 and g5 are going to be good long lasting cars if history is any lesson. Twenty years from now its 2044, and I will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, or other.

Might only be available to members of the web site but in the video in the members area they say they bought a XLE AWD. Here is a screenshot from the video giving the specs of the car they bought and the price they paid.

My understanding is that they rented a Limited AWD originally from Toyota and that is what they used to write the first drive impressions. Than they purchased XLE AWD and used that to calculate an overall score.

I haven't seen any mention in either their podcasts or articles of them driving a FWD Non Prime Prius.

 

It may not be a mistake. If you look at the Toyota Web site and compare and XLE and XLE AWD there is no difference on the specs for the interior, exterior, safety/convenience, steering, interior or exterior dimensions specifications.

The only real difference on their charts is a net 2 horsepower difference, 12 inch versus 11.1 inch front discs, 0.8 gallon gas tank difference, 120 pound curb weight difference and the 30 kW rear motor. I can't see how any of those little differences would have much of an impact on Consumer Reports ratings and specs.

I agree it is a little bit confusing how they have the Prius page now with the first drive impression from the Limited AWD and presumably the ratings and specs from the XLE AWD.

I also noticed one more inconstancy ont the ratings and specs page although a minor one. If they tested an XLE AWD the fuel capacity should say 10.5 gallons not 11.3 gallons per the Toyota web site
