If BP made a park, would that make all the oil dumped in the Gulf okay?

How does the money Toyota spent on this trail and other such public projects compare to the money they spent lobbying against regulations that would have them decrease carbon emissions and increases to fuel economy standards?

I am personally familiar with this legacy as we helped secure these awards, why wasn't Toyota's history of cooperation with EPA included in the article

I guess I’m just ignorant: I always bought stock to make money, not for customer satisfaction. I was more concerned with profit margins. DANG!!! That must have been where I went wrong!

Maybe because it has no bearing on the topic of Toyota making EVs, and them working against policies that would require them to make those EVs.

Toyota winning an EPA award for doing something that will save them money doesn't pardon them from defying EPA regulations. It probably helps with the $180 million fine.

Large corporations (and many small ones) know full well that a few well placed public service projects provide warm fuzzy feelings that go a long way to insuring and helping the public forget the big picture, and gets them tax right offs too. The American public has the memory span of a 3 year old. As many of the posters here prove.

I’m confused, aren’t we talking about what Toyota is CURRENTLY doing? I thought we were in 2023, just 6 weeks shy of 2024. Oh, that’s right, the good old short attention span reveals itself again. So let’s repeat the question: WHERE IS THE EV?
This thread is looking a lot like a Presidential Debate: who cares about the question, just say something.

Doug McC if you want to take pokes at Toyota you are certainly in the right place. There are more than a couple of Toyota haters that live eat and breathe here. There is nothing they like better that to lambast Toyota and anyone who would support Toyota. Doesn't bother me a bit.

I am very familiar with Toyota and their commitment to a better planet and their actual activities to help make that happen.

If you want a Company Brochure on their Environment and Social activities to make this a better planet, I am happy to pass that on to you.
Most importantly it includes past, present and future activities to give an open minded individual a balanced view.

Rather than a silly unbalanced article it is an actual action plan with financial and manpower backing it up.

    Much different than internet postings.

You may not like what the OP article stated about Toyota, but Toyota's reported actions in it weren't made up.

Corporate Toyota and it's officers / shareholders / directors are people just like every other Corporation. When shareholders get ticked off enough the board has to "rearrange". Isn't that what happened to their leadership recently? How many times has it been said here that it takes a while for a big ship to turn - with a small rudder.
Eat - live - breathe Toyota hate? Comments are probably well over 98% Prius Toyota owners here - or at least one time. Just because kids or parents do something that we disapprove of doesn't mean that we hate 'em. They're family ... warts included

You apparently confuse my decision as a consumer as taking a “poke at Toyota”; either that, or you believe by accusing me of being misinformed will force me to believe and respond in accordance with your wishes (narcissistic behavior). Or perhaps both are true.
Toyota is not the perfect environmental conscious company that you would like me to believe. They have done some good things, they have failed to do others. I don’t believe they are the personification of evil, and I am not as ignorant of their actions and motives as you have attempted to portray me as (nice try).
My wife and I have decided that we will not purchase another Toyota Product unless it meets our requirements and expectations.
If you believe by exercising narcissistic behavior towards me we cause me to change my mind, you are grossly mistaken.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Did some research about Public Citizen the entity that the article came from

Public Citizen - InfluenceWatch - InfluenceWatch

    "Public Citizen, Inc. is a liberal 501(c)(4) lobbying and advocacy organization created by left-wing activist and former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader.N.Y. Times. June 2, 1971. Accessed January 22, 2018. http://www.nytimes.com/1971/06/02/archives/nader-forms-unit-to-seek-donations.html" title="" aria-describedby="qtip-0" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(7, 75, 162); transition: all 0.15s ease 0s;">1 The organization supports a broad liberal policy agenda focused on opposing the free-market interests of American business owners.https://www.citizen.org/about/about-us" title="" aria-describedby="qtip-1" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(7, 75, 162); transition: all 0.15s ease 0s;">2 "

"PC chastises special interest lobbying for undermining the legitimacy of American Democracy.https://www.citizen.org/our-work/government-reform/lobbying-reform-0" title="" aria-describedby="qtip-10" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(7, 75, 162); transition: all 0.15s ease 0s;">11 However, Public Citizen is a lobbying entityhttps://www.citizen.org/about/about-us" title="" aria-describedby="qtip-11" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(7, 75, 162); transition: all 0.15s ease 0s;">12 funded by a number of liberal financiers and special interests such as liberal billionaire George Soros"

Oh my - This organization and its major contributor George Soros seem to be very naughty. They get two lumps of coal and bundle of switches from Santa for not having a balanced view and common sense.

But let's make lemonade out of lemons and we will use this post and the people it draws to inform them of the whole picture of a company and give them the tools to have a balanced view and make a commonsense decision rather than a knee jerk reactions.

Lets review what we have learned so far:

    1. Toyota makes wonderful products such as the Prius, Camry and Corolla that all get over 50 mpg and each day are making a positive contribution to decrease global warming by their efficiency. These cars are sold all over the world and some of the most popular vehicles every made. They have been making these vehicles for many years and these vehicles have greatly reduced the amount of gasoline and fossil fuels their owners use while also having a positive impact on global warming
    2. Toyota has been on a list of the Worlds Most Admired Companies for many consecutive years. They are greatly respected and admired world wide.
3.The United States Environmental Protection Agency considers Toyota a valuable Parter in their fight against pollution and has given them many awards. Toyota is considered to be a leader for Automakers in this area.
    4. Toyota has created an Environmental Diversity Trail/Forest at one of its major Automotive Facilities to allow school groups and colleges to study nature and conduct teaching exercises there.
5.Toyota is actively funding, manufacturing, and distributing Hydrogen alternative to large scale commercial trucking enterprises to help impact pollution and global warming.

I know you are screaming what about their financial investment in North America- their job creation - the tremendous automotive support industry they are growing in Noth America.
What about their social programs, their philanthropy and contribution to the many disaster relief efforts in Norh America. Toyota is not just an Automotive Manufacturer - why are you not discussing their other major positive contributions to society.

I hear you - we are going to cover those one at a time each day to give individuals time to digest each one. We will then add it to our list.

This will be a wonderful resource for individuals to get a balance picture of Toyota and have a balanced view of the company.

Nothing new for Toyota. They were also part of the gang of auto manufacturers that lobbied against the CARB to cut out the EVs in Kalifornia.

Instead of attacking the messenger and posting whataboutisms, how about directly addressing the points raised about Toyota in the article?

Is their lobbying efforts against measures to limit global warming impacts reported in error? Or were they correct to do so?

Is their recent leadership shake up to address their past EV stance actually the wrong move, they were correct about the EV market all along? Or should they speed it up as the article wishes?

The article had specific criticisms of Toyota. It was not a broad brush attack on the company. Those criticisms align with the OP's beliefs to the point that they will not buy a Toyota until change happens at the company.
