Saw the new i5. That's a big grille but not as brash as the 7 series or XM.

I saw a 1958ish Mercury Monterey parked at the Purina National Dog Show (coincidentally on air as I post this)

    Porsche 918 Spyder.

Whoa. Was it a show car or someone's usable vehicle?

It was not in show condition. It was parked like an unrestored, registered sunday driver.

It should be understood that the parking lot outside the National Dog Show is full of bigdollar RVs; the dog show set travels in comfort through the competition circuit. There are often "nice" cars parked near the RVs.

This was the most notable of those.

I think the Solo got mentioned here at some point. The company is an off shoot of a custom coach builder. Maybe a dozen Solos were actually delivered to customers when I had first learned of it a few years ago; mostly in Canada where they were located. Looks like they had been making the trike up through March. Can't tell what is currently going on with the EV company. Only thing about the Solo at the site is the recall.

    In 1938 an automotive designer for Buick name Harley Earl (father of the corvette in a later decade) made a one of a kind concept car. It was the very first concept car ever. That being the case it has it's very own wiki page (with pictures);

By sheer luck a friend and I went down to San Juan Capistrano maybe 3½ years ago to a parking lot type car show

and there it was. Apparently every once in a blue moon they'll break it out for whatever special occasion.

Didn't know what the heck it was until I got home that afternoon and read up on it. Hideaway headlights, electric windows, flush door handles & all other sorts of stuff futuristic for its time.

Yesterday I saw a Ford Excursion SUV.

Even the youngest of those are about to turn 20 years old, and this one stood out not only for being clean, but served as a strong reminder of how little change there has been in the style of the very largest SUVs.

Ha! Down .... but not out. If the GM Dummer can make a come back - then so can the Ford gas hog. 2024 version on its way

Did a short drive in one of those; the boss had one, needed it moved. I guess Ford came up with the Expedition first (larger variant of the Explorer), so when the even larger version came off the drawing board, they went with Excursion, which doesn't sound appropriate for that beast.

In Antigua, Guatemala currently. Lots of motorcycles. Including ones with motorcycle bodies and scooter sized wheels, Honda Navi was one.

First in person sighting of a Hilux, Hiace, and Raize.

A smart forfour and what looked like a smart fortwo badged as a Mercedes.

    A Mahindra Pik Up.

Some Chinese brands. Including a mini car about the size of the tuktuks.

An old Datsun sedan, 1970s maybe. Could only make out a W at the end of the name.

Some old Land Rovers at the coffee farm.

I just got home from a short trip in South Carolina. I rented a 2024 Malibu.

I only had the chance to put about 50 miles on it, but I liked it.

They updated the instrument panel (total re-do) and they fixed the bug in the infotainment that forced wireless carplay, so I was able to plug in and go right away- no pairing process or legalese tap-throughs.

It was already a nice car and that puts an extra shine on it.

    An Isuzu Ascender.

And a few blocks later, an Isuzu Vehicross.

Very weird to see two last-gasp Isuzus out on the road at the same time.

Spotted several Isuzu D-Max trucks in Guatemala. Plus a Peugeot Landtrek - Wikipedia, plus a Renault that could be its brand twin.

A Fiat Strada, a smaller than Maverick pick up. An older Ute type car, from the '70s perhaps, of about the same size

    My first Corolla Cross.

Our rental was a Nissan NV350 Urvan. A flat faced, cab over the engine model not likely to be seen in the US again. It was a diesel, which is about the same price as gasoline in the country. Many diesels there don't proclaim they are diesels.

Most surprising was an actual EV box truck.

In general, you could spot new models, including luxury ones, around the capital. Moving out, the fleet becomes older; likely used imports from elsewhere. Most seemed to be of 1980 and 1990 vintage. Actual 4x4s were popular. Some turns on paved roads were a problem for 2wd. Our RWD van spun the wheels on at least one.

    Shades of james bond .....
MD's car Aston Martin is worth more than some folks' homes. It is pretty stinkin' badass. Who does that ... leaves that kind of value just sitting in a parking lot ... even in a safe area parking lot
